52 Shoes IV

Even if you don't live in the UK, you've probably heard all about the snow we've been having over the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately, as I pointed out last week, my wellies have got a hole in them. Another pair is a tad too small, another pair were left at work and my final pair are still hiding in the very cold shed.

To solve my wellie dilemma, I decided to crack out my Doc Martens. Rich bought these for me as a graduation present back in 2011, and I'd only worn them a couple of times since. They were perfect for the ice- hardy, warm and completely anti-slip. Plus, they're bright red and shiny. I couldn't work out for the life of me why I didn't wear them more often.

Then, as I approached the train station after my 30 minute walk, I suddenly remembered. They are Boots of Death. I had to wear them at work all day and, by the time I got home, I was fully expecting to have to pour blood out of them.

Luckily for me, there were no puddles of blood but, unfortunately, I barely had any heels left. I love my Docs, but I think I'd better put them away for another couple of years.

  2. It takes months to break Docs in unfortunately.. don't put them away, once your heels have healed wear them for short periods with thick socks. It'll be worth it in the end, trust.

  3. I have red docs too, although mine are slightly different. They're so good for the type of weather we've just had! xx

  4. I know what you mean about DMs being foot graters! I had to get rid of my lovely purple ones because everytime I wore them my feet near fell off!!

  5. Once you get them worn in they are the comfiest shoes on the planet! The docs wearing in process is stuff of painful legend though, my ankles took a month to heal after my first pair.

  7. I've had two pairs of Doc's and have always been absolutely terrified of them cutting my feet to shreds, but they've always been fine! I really want to get the tan pair with the fluffy lining. I'm convinced they'll be super comfortable from day 1!x

  8. I've heard so many horror stories about breaking in Docs. I got mine 2nd hand but almost new, and I had no problem at all with them. Have you tried wearing several thin layers of socks, and wearing them around the house and giving your feet a rest when it's starting to hurt? They really are immensely comfy when they've moulded to your foot and broken them in.

    1. I bet it's great to buy ready-worn-in pairs! That's a great tip. I'll definitely try that! (Once my feet have healed!)

  10. DMs are great alternatives to wellies, I was so pleased with how well mine coped in the snow. They are honestly worth breaking in because once they are broken in they are THE most comfortable shoes (and who doesn't feel badass stomping around in DMs?! Or is that just me?!) I'd suggest a few layers of socks (or tights + thick socks) and wearing preventative plasters/micropore tape on the places where they rub you (in my case, the heels) and that prevents any rubbing while breaking them in :) xxx
