Diaries September 2005- April 2006

These are the diaries I had at the peak of my emo days. They're mortifying! As always, I have kept my spelling and grammar intact. Don't think I'm this terrible these days! Quite a lot of these extracts needed some context, so I've added notes in italics and brackets.
Bertie (27th September 2005- 5th December 2005)

"A bit about me:
I'm seventeen years old and studying A-levels in 3D art, English literature, and graphic design, and a CACHE diploma in childcare. I have naturally brown, curly hair, but it's dyed black. I wear black emo glasses and braces. As soon as they come off I'm getting my lip pierced twice. I have my nose pierced, a scaffold, and my ears pierced four times. Soon I'm getting my nape pierced. I would describe myself as emo. My favourite bands are My Chemical Romance, The Used and Green Day, all of whom I have seen). I'm going to see MCR and The Used again in Novemeber, and I can't wait!"

10th October 2005:
"I've decided that after my snakebites, I'm getting my right cheek pierced. Just the one. Most people (well, the two I know who have their cheeks pierced) have both, but i want to be different. And I can't get both anyway, 'cos my left side will be too busy. I've decided that I want a bat tattooed on each hip."

18th October 2005
"I went to Asda to buy skeleton gloves like Frank Iero but they'd sold out so I consoled myself by buying a pumpkin light and bat garland to decorate my room. I wanted some rubber bats to hang from my cieling but they'd sold out so I consoled myself by buying a pumpkin light and bat garland to decorate my room." [Yes, the repetition was in my diary. No idea why!]

23rd October 2005:
"When I was in the airport I drew some amazing doodles- a gothic bride crying tears of blood, a couple of fallen angels, a gravestone splattered with blood, and, my personal favourite, Gerard Way holding a microphone in the air, whilst his shadow holds a gun up."

5th November 2005:
"OH MY GOD! Yesterday was the best day of my life- I MET MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE!!! [I met them at the stage door after a gig. I write for pages and pages about the experience and the conversations we had]... I was so calm throughout the whole thing. It was only when I was on the bus that I started hyperventilating and just now burst into tears. They're such lovely people- so polite and modest. I'll never get over it!"

Ville Valo (7th December 2005- 17th April 2006)

"A bit about me:
I'm seventeen years old and studying A-levels in 3D Art, English Literature, and Graphic Design, and a CACHE diploma in Childcare.
I have naturally brown, curly hair, but it's dyed black. I wear black emo glasses and braces. As soon as they come off I'm getting my lip pierced twice. I have my nose pierced, a scaffold, and my ears pierced four times. Soon, I'm getting my nape pierced.
I would describe myself as emo. My favourite bands are My Chemical Romance and The Used, who I have met. The guys from MCR, especially Gerard Way, were lovely, as was Jepha Howard but Bert McCracken was a knob. I have also met Gareth Davies- another legend."

9th December 2005:
"I'm getting my nose pierced again tomorrow. *Excitingness!* Mummy doesn't know. On Wednesday, she told me not to get any more. Oops!"

6th January 2005:
"Jamie (my then-boyfriend) is coming round here before we go to the cinema so Mummy will have a field day. She's desperate to meet him. She managed to get from me that he works at Maplin, so she went there and looked at all guy's name badges".

5th February 2005:
"On Friday, we skipped college to queue up for Funeral's gig".

18th February 2005:
"Yes, I'm writing binue and I dn't care. 'cos I'm so drunk right now!"

["Binue" is supposed to be "in blue". I can remember to use apostrophes correctly, but not how to spell "blue"! Oh, and that was significant because I only like to write in black ink.]

17th April 2006:
"I'm going to set my brother up with a Myspace account".

  1. Loved this post - it was so interesting! I went through a 'scene' phase and wanted to dye my hair blue - quite thankful I didn't now! :)

  2. This was fascinating! I think we're a similar age and if I'd kept a diary it would have been just as emo haha! I was obsessed with MCR when I was at sixth form. I only kept a diary sporadically and I don't know what happened to any of my ramblings, I wish I'd kept them like you have!xx

  5. I love these posts! They are definitely a favourite! I'm so jealous of you meeting My Chemical Romance! I met The Used, Bert was lovely the first time the second he was a bit of a dick but Jepha was so nice!
I can't wait to see your next ones!

  7. I love these extracts so much! I especially like your reasoning with the single cheek piercing. I feel that if I'd kept diaries from back then they'd be pretty similar- Halloween 2005 was the year that I too decided to deck my room out with skulls and bats and cobwebs... except my parents made me take them down in January because they were fed up of looking at them! Looking forward to the next installment xx
