Review: MAC Viva Glam I Original and Viva Glam Nicki Lipstick

After my obsession with Candy Yum Yum, I thought it was time I indulged in some more MAC lipsticks. They seriously are the best lipsticks on the market. When I was in Harrods, I popped over to the MAC counter and picked up these two Viva Glam lipsticks: Nicki and the original 1994 version. All the proceeds raised from the sale of Viva Glam lipsticks goes towards the MAC AIDS Fund, helping people living with HIV and AIDS, so it's a really good cause.

As you can see, the packaging is more or less the same, except the bullet casing and the MAC logo is in red instead of the standard silver. In addition, the Nicki lipstick has Nicki Minaj's signature across the box and bullet casing.

The original Viva Glam lipstick was launched in 1994 and was fronted by RuPaul. It's a really deep burgundy and, although it's described as a matte, I actually find that it has quite a sheen to it. I'm not sure if this is an exact replica of the original or if MAC have tweaked it to make it more modern. I suspect the latter, as I'd imagine a 1994 lip would be super matte and powdery. Either way, it's a blue-based brownish red that is perfect for winter.

The lighting in this photo has made the shade look a lot brighter than it actually is, but it's a good representation of the sheen I mentioned.

I'm surprised at the longevity of this lipstick. I find MAC to be really good for long-lasting lipsticks but this didn't last as long as other mattes such as Candy Yum Yum and Ruby Woo. Nevertheless, it's still a lovely shade and definitely worth the money- Especially as it's such a good cause!

In the bullet, Viva Glam Nicki is a lovely peachy-pinky-coral shade. I was immediately drawn to it as I love the brightness of it, although it is yellow-based which is never great for teeth! There is no mistaking the consistency of this lipstick. It's described as a satin finish and it matches up to this.

On application, it's a very subtle pale pink but it's easy to build up to a bolder colour. The shade is almost neutral, but prettier, so it's a really great day lipstick. I can imagine it's going to be pretty versatile as well.

Again, it's not one of the most long-lasting lipsticks I've tried from MAC but you still get a good couple of hours out of it. I can see that I'm going to be wearing this one a lot!
