Review: Harlequin Origin Lip Balm

In winter, my lips chap horribly, so I'm always on the lookout for a new lip balm. So when Harlequin Cosmetics offered to send me one of their Origin Lip Balms for review, I was very excited!
Harlequin Cosmetics is a small, family-run company selling handmade cosmetics. What's great about Harlequin is that they only use natural products that are free from parabens and sulphates and they are completely cruelty-free.

The Origin lip balm was the first product made my Harlequin co-founder Becky (she started making cosmetics when she was just 14!) and it is filled with nautral, organic ingredients: apricot kernal oil, shea butter, beeswax and cocoa butter. These are helpfully listed on the packaging, which is kept simple. It has the standard twist-up base, with a lid that clicks firmly in place so it won't pop open in my bag.

Due to the natural ingredients, the lip balm is a golden cream colour which always seems reassuring to me. It appears waxy at first glance, but on application, it's actually really smooth and creamy. It's unbelievably moisturising. It melts into the skin straight away and feels really nourishing.

The only downside I found with this is the taste. Due to the all-natural ingredients, there is no extra flavouring so the lip balm tastes quite earthy. I can smell and taste the cocoa powder and shea butter, but it's very strong and raw. However, the good news is that Harlequin are looking into different flavours, which would make this lip balm absolutely perfect.

It's only £3.49 which is really great value. I genuinely think this is the most moisturising lip balm I have ever tried. It's certainly better than the Burt's Bees one that I'm currently using. When different flavours are formulated, it will be my favourite lip balm by a long way!

  2. This sounds lovely! I always prefer more natural products especially when they're going so close to your mouth :)
