Review: MAC lipsticks in Bombshell and Costa Chic

My absolute favourite lipstick at the moment is MAC Viva Glam Nicki. A couple of weeks ago, I thought I'd lost it and I'm a little ashamed to admit that I may have overreacted a bit! I found it, but realised I should probably buy a spare one. Luckily, just a day or two later, I saw one being sold in a blog sale. Is that fate, or is that fate? There was also another another 3 MAC lipsticks for sale: Costa Chic, Bombshell and Lady Bug. I already own a fair amount of Lady Bug, but I snapped up the other two shades.

They're both frost finishes which, if I'm honest, I was a little worried about. I've definitely steered well clear of frost lipsticks for fear of looking like I'm in Footballers' Wives, or even Jordan circa 2001. It turns out I had nothing to worry about!

Bombshell

I am in love with Bombshell! It's almost the exact same colour as my lips, just more pigmented and with that gentle frosty shimmer. It's perfect for a more toned down look (although I know I'm not usually one for toned down lips!). The frost means it's not particularly long-lasting, and it does that annoying thing where it fades from the inside out, leaving a rim of colour along the lip line. However, as it's such a subtle shade, it's not too noticeable. It's well worth the risk!

Costa Chic
I'd heard a lot about Costa Chic (mostly from Becca!) so I had high hopes for it. I wasn't disappointed! It's a lovely, highly pigmented coral. As with Bombshell, Costa Chic has a frost finish but it doesn't have the tackiness that I've always associated with frosted lipsticks. This shade lasts longer than the other, and fades much more evenly. In fact, my lips still retain a hint of coral 9 hours later! Not bad going, right?

    1. I like to mix it up: Sometimes something really bright and other times something more subtle.
