Making bath bombs

Did you know I like bath bombs? I know, I hid it really well! As you can imagine, I jumped at the chance when Joe Blogs invited me to make bath bombs with Midas Touch at the very lovely Amba Hotel in Charing Cross.

Once I'd reached the hotel, which is right next to Charing Cross station- very handy!, I got chatting to some of the other bloggers including Rachel, Charlie and Ashleigh. Although the event was set in a central London hotel, it was a very informal, laid-back event and everybody was giggling before we even got started. (We were very excited to be disturbed by a Fawlty Towers event next door as Basil, Sybil and Manuel kept walking past our room in character!) We all tucked into the delicious food that was put on by the hotel.

Naz, the owner of Midas Touch, began by giving us a brief, interesting background into the history of soap and the principles of making it before we got our hands messy!
We started by making soap including fragrances and colourings. Of course I went for pink and I settled on chocolate with a hint of vanilla. I can tell you now that it smells amazing and, having used it, I can confirm that even my skin was fragranced. I can't for the life of me remember how I made it now but I do remember that it was crazy simple and I'm so impressed that the finished product is so effective.

Next, we moved on to making shower jellies which involve using shower gels. I cannot wait to turn all my favourite gels into jellies, since they're a lot more fun to use and make great gifts too. I'm envisioning buying some really tacky jelly moulds. Shower rabbits. Shower castles. Shower blancmanges.

Finally, bouyed up by our soap and shower jelly success, it was time to move on to the big draw of the event: Bath bombs. Let me tell you, they are hard. Making bath bombs in a moist room is a recipe for disaster. The process itself was simple (so long as you don't use too much water) and consisted of purely baking soda, corn flour, citric acid and water but I think it's going to take a while to master. I'm determined to do it, though!
This is my first bath bomb.

I had such a great time and really did learn some great skills that I can't wait to put into practise at home. Thanks to Joe Blogs, Midas Touch and Amba Hotels, as well as all the great bloggers I met, for a wonderful afternoon!

  8. Sounds like you had a fun time and I live your first bomb haha. When I was younger I'd melt our soap in a saucepan and pour it into moulds.
