Disney Store 30

These past few weeks, my life has been completely dominated by Disney. I'm off to Walt Disney World in 163 days (not that I have an app that counts down or anything...) so it feels like I've done nothing but plan. My dining reservations are all booked, I'm starting to buy special Disney clothes to wear, and my Instagram saved folder is 100% cute Disney images. So the timing for the Disney Store's 30th anniversary could not be any better!

As part of the celebrations, the Disney Store sent me a mystery package and challenged me to recreate a scene using the prop inside. I received these adorable little Inside Out figurines from the Pixar film and figured it was the perfect time to put my Disneybound skills into action. For my trip in September, I have big plans involving a whole lot of Disneybounding, which is something I've never done before, and this was a great chance to practice. With my yellow lace dress and blue hairband, I imitated Joy spreading a little happiness for Sadness.

While creating this image, I started thinking about my own happy memories, specifically Disney ones. My grandparents bought every VHS release in the 90s, so we had a shelf filled with Disney videos to watch every time we visited. I was never happier than waltzing around the living room, singing Beauty and the Beast to myself.

When I was 15 or so, my dad lived in London so once a month, I'd go to visit. Every single time, I would take myself over to the huge Disney Store in Oxford Street and spend my pocket money on massive Nemo teddies or little Marie keyrings for my best friend, also named Marie. I'm thoughtful like that!

Then there were my trips to Walt Disney World. As a kid, I was desperate to visit, especially when my childhood bestie Katie went for a couple of weeks in 1999, but (bar a day trip to Disneyland Paris when I was very little), I had to wait until I was 23 before I finally made it to Florida. Visiting with my other best friend (apparently my Disney memories feature a lot of different best friends!!) to celebrate our graduation, we had the best time ever. Although I was excited, nothing prepared me for just how brilliantly overwhelming the whole experience was! I don't think I've ever been as excited as I was that first time I skipped down Main Street to the sounds of the trolley show. And then there was my wedding-slash-honeymoon trip in 2014. What could be better than celebrating with my new husband and two of our closest friends? It was a very special time!

Now, three years on, we're getting ready to make some brand new Disney memories! I cannot wait for our two weeks in Walt Disney World to celebrate my master's graduation. We're staying onsite for the first time and aim to make full use of it. Then there's our first experience of autumn (or should I say fall?) in Disney, including Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. These next 5 months can't pass fast enough!

Happy 30th birthday to the Disney Store! I'd love to hear all about your happy Disney memories, and maybe even share your own Disney-inspired images with the #DisneyStore30 hashtag!

Inside Out figurines were provided by the Disney Store for the purpose of this post but all opinions are my own.
