How to be a Fat B #4

This week's assignment is See Beauty in Other Fat Bodies. This is an interesting assignment for me. I'll start with the obvious- Adele.

I get compared to Adele an awful lot. Not a week goes by when I don't get at least one (positive) comment remarking on how much I look like Adele. Personally, I don't think I do. I think that since I have a similar body shape and my style is very like hers, it gives the impression of looking alike. However, I'm happy to take the compliment!

I'm not really a big fan of Adele. I really love Someone Like You but, other than that song, I'm not that interested in her music. Nevertheless, I remember when she first got really big a couple of years ago and staring at photos of her. Here was a girl of my age (our birthdays are a month apart) who was beautiful, talented, successful and fat. This was a revelation for me. Not to mention the fact that her style aesthetic was so similar to mine.
Funnily enough, as I type this, I'm watching Hairspray. The Tracy Turnblud character is absolutely fantastic, as is Nikki Blonsky who plays her. She can sing, though that fits into the stereotype of fat girls with great voices. What I really love about her is how fantastic a dancer she is. I have a dance background but always felt like an outsider due to my (mostly perceived) size. Although I don't dance anymore, this film reminds me that fat girls can dance!

  1. I don't care if one is fat or thin. Charisma is what it counts - Beth Ditto is a perfect role model that states what I think. And I know she wouldn't be that cool if she suddenly became skinny :)xx

    1. Or would she? Is coolness based on size? It's interesting to think about that- How does someone's size create their character?

    2. Funny you should mention that. I feel like as a fat girl, I have to have a good Charisma or at least be funny, but then I think...As i have grown larger in size it's been the same, even when I lost weight. But I have watched a lot of shows or Documentary's and I've seen were bigger people have been labeled "the funny fat guy" or the Life of the party because they made fun of themselves so nobody else could. I'm rambling but that's an interested observation. A part of me wonders if Beths Charisma is based on the fact that she is a very confident women and here...men at like a big woman with confidence is some what of a cocky thing. Like there is "no way" a girl my size can just love myself and live my life without binging on ice cream all day. Sigh...Now i'm all flustered thinking about this -_-

  2. To be honest I wouldn't say you look like Adele either. Nothing bad about it though.

Personally, I can't really connect to her style or music, yet I think of her as a gorgeous selfconfident woman. In the end beauty isn't about weight. But I guess everyone got their own definition of beauty.

  5. "I love comments more than I love Diet Pepsi (...that's a lot!)"
    Nice line. ;)

I don't really care for a person's body size. As long as they're healthy... I mean, it's not /my/ place to judge. I struggle with being okay with myself and eating. It's not exactly other's place to judge me on that, either.

Tracy from Hairspray is literally one of my favorite musical characters of all time. :D
