I'm a fan of the MAC lipstick packaging. It's simple, nothing too flashy, but it looks attractive with the smooth rounded shape, and I can confirm that they take a good amount of beating without cracking. I always have one of these in my handbag, and I've never had any accidents- The lid has never fallen off and they've not been damaged at all. Inside, the bullet shape is the standard lipstick shape so it's easy to apply. Both lipsticks have the trademark vanilla scent that I've come to expect from MAC.
Lady Bug
The lustre of Lady Bug means it glides on easy and it leaves my lips feeling smooth and moisturised. The downside of this is that it transfers more easily than other MAC lipsticks. However, I find that MAC lipsticks stay put for ages anyway, so this still lasts a good few hours.
When applied, the lustre gives it a subtle sheen and this makes it a great daytime red. It's not too bold, so it would be great if you're new to red lipstick. Lady Bug is my favourite red lipstick ever. It's so versatile- It works for any situation. When in doubt, I reach for the Lady Bug!
Ruby Woo
The famous Ruby Woo! I bought this online without swatching it in store purely because of the reputation. When it turned up, I was so disappointed that I put it in a drawer and forgot about it for a few months. It is super, super matte. I used to apply lipstick with a lipbrush and this was just not possible. However, when I succumbed to applying it straight out of the bullet, I fell in love.
As I said, it's very matte. This makes it a little tricky to apply and it can be drying. However, once it's on, it stays on. For hours. Hours and hours and hours. It's a very bold blue-red so probably not best for retiring types but I absolutely love the vintage feel it gives. I'm so glad I gave it another shot!
Right, let's talk about pricing. Yes, they're £15. Yes, they were £14 a few months ago. Look up inflation. I promise you the price is increasing in line with inflation. Unfortunately, they can't stay at £14 forever. Remember when chocolate bars were 30p? Exactly.
Personally, I'm very happy to pay £15 for these lipsticks. They are by no means the most expensive lipsticks on the market and it's a very average mid-range price. For the quality of these lipsticks- the colour payoff, the longevity and the durability of the packaging- I think they are well worth it. I'm yet to find a high-street brand that I love as much as these.
I am an absolute sucker for Ruby Woo, no other red will do.
ReplyDeleteI tried it many years ago in the shop and hated it but bought it on impulse online last year and it is my go to red. I wear it a little less now as I have reddish hair and am worried about it clashing but sometimes when I'm feeling a little naughty I just wear it anyway!
My 1 year blog anniversary is coming up soon and I was thinking of including this as a prize but not sure whether everyone else will love it as much as I do?
Anyway, going off a bit now - great post as always Becky!

I'm glad I ended up trying it out again! It would have been such a shame if I'd relegated it to the drawer forever!
DeleteI think it would make a great prize!
I was gifted Lady Bug as a graduation present from high school in 2011, but someone in college stole it from my make up bag in the theatre. Talk about gross. And, I kind of refuse to pay $15 for a lipstick. It's not condusive to my lifestyle.
ReplyDeleteI love love love Ruby Woo. It's so gorgeous. Matte lipsticks are my favorite. I own a couple dupes of it but nothing will beat the real thing.
You look lovely in red, it's such a bold and gorgeous color and it suits you!

$15? You get a bargain! It's 15 POUNDS here!
DeleteI want to get my hands on Ruby Woo, it's a classic! I'm definitely more into matte lipsticks than other finishes! x
ReplyDeleteI generally prefer slightly glossier finishes but I make an exception for Ruby Woo!
DeleteI just realised how right you are- Mac lipsticks do have a vanilla smell
ReplyDeleteHaha I love the MAC smell!
DeleteI wear MAC russian red lipstick every day....great colour and fantastic staying power. I often get compliments on it. Well worth the money.

I really want to try Russian Red!
DeleteRuby Woo is my favourite and I prefer it to Russian Red. People do not like the texture but I honestly don't mind! I find it is easier to apply that way, and even better with a good lip brush. Ladybug on the other hand is a bit too sheer for my liking and it doesn't last as long as the Mac Mattes. Lately I don't buy any lippies from Mac that aren't Matte.

Lady Bug doesn't last as long, you're right, but still lasts longer than a lot of other lipsticks!
DeleteThat color looks stunning on you
ReplyDeleteThank you!
