I've never been a fan of maxi anything: Dresses, skirts, even trousers! Then, last year, I bought this striped maxi skirt and absolutely fell in love. Since then, I've been a lot more open-minded and couldn't wait until this summer so I could wear all the maxi dresses. I might have gone a bit overboard though, as I've bought four in the past week!
This maxi dress^ is from Boohoo and I love it because of the capped sleeves. Most maxi dresses tend to have strappy sleeves, which aren't really my thing. I feel a lot more comfortable like this and I prefer the way it looks too. Although I don't usually like belts with dresses since the size of my waist doesn't correlate with my dress size, this one is completely adjustable with no belt holes and actually sits on my natural waist. Result!
Can we also appreciate the fact that, for once, I'm not wearing my Crocs? These black sandals are from Primark and were an absolute staple of my wardrobe last year. Hopefully they're stocking them this year too as I want to get some different coloured ones.
Yes, it's pretty clingy so it did show off my tummy but, on the flip side, it also accentuated my curves so swings and roundabouts! The clinginess means it's probably best to carefully consider what is worn underneath since the waistband of my pants was obvious and you could see the seam down the front of my leggings. Yeah, I wore leggings underneath. Chub rub and all that!
I think the length of the dress made me look taller than I usually do and the black is a colour I feel comfortable in. All in all, I think it looks pretty good!
Damn good! I felt kinda boho chic which is a phrase I would never use to describe myself! Wearing my hair loose with a thin braid looped over the crown of my head added to that hippy feeling. As it was such a hot day, I felt cool but also really confident. Come at me!
As happens a lot when I test trends, I had no reaction. Turns out nobody laughed at me or shielded their eyes in disgust. Who would have thought?

Love this post! I actually just wore a skin tight midi dress today! It was actually really nice to wear something that clung to me for once. I thought I was going to be stared at and all that jazz but nope. The world kept on spinning. You look absolutely beautiful in the dress by the way :)

I would love to wear maxi dresses but my family thinks its wrong for me to "show" off my lumpy bits. So i tend to wear clothes that cover myself.

You look stunning in this! What a fantastic figure you have, and also your hair looks lovely :)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to have the confidence to wear a maxi dress, but alas - I look like a short block who is drowning in materials! Also, if it gets too hot and you can't bear the idea of leggings under a long dress or skirt, I strongly recommend a pair of cycling shorts - they work wonders for me under dresses!
:) x
I love maxi dresses but I'm always cautious as I feel they can be quite see through?? This one looks beautiful on you & I love the belt with it.

You look grand :) I love the idea of maxi dresses but think I'm too short for most, tripping over yourself isn't a good look at any size!
ReplyDeleteThis dress looks great on you! And at the end of the day it really is "if you like it,wear it"!

I love maxi dresses but at 5 foot 4 they're often too long and need shortening which means I have to avoid anything with a printed border. All over print or plain is fine but borders are a no.
ReplyDeleteI love maxi dresses but as I'm 5ft, it's difficult to find one that doesn't need shortening. I've managed to find 3 for my height now, that's quite amazing. I do think they are elegant and make you look taller
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning. My Nan keeps going on at me that I should wear maxi dresses cause I'm so tall but I was never into it but after seeing this post I might pick a few up and try them on next time I'm in town!
ReplyDeleteLooks great, I have a gorgeous black maxi dress with a leaf print all over it and I adore it!
ReplyDeleteYou look absolutely beautiful Becky, this dress is so flattering on you!!
