OOTD // George Knitwear Club
Normally, I would be curled up in a ball in a corner of my sofa crying right about now. The impending autumn means one thing: Back to school. This year, however, now that I'm not going back into the classroom (as the teacher, at least!), I can really appreciate how exciting it is when the seasons start turning. It's time to dig out my woollies and, to make sure our knitwear is fully prepared for the cold months ahead, George at Asda have shared the best tips on how to care for knitwear, both from a knitwear expert and some familiar faces.
When it comes to knitwear, I am rarely without a cardigan. Even in summer, I will have a cardigan tucked away in a bag somewhere just in case. Colder months usually mean I reach for a big, snuggly jumper and I am a sucker for a novelty print. Because knitwear is such a vital part of my wardrobe, it's important that I care for it properly so that it lasts for years to come.
STORE YOUR KNITWEAR CORRECTLY
Either fold them neatly in drawers or hang up on a padded hanger. I like fancy silky hangers because they look so unapologetically glamorous and, if you get hold of the scented ones, they'll keep your knitwear smelling amazing too!
ZAP THOSE BOBBLES
Since I wear so much knitwear, I experience a lot of bobbles! Handwashing jumpers and cardigans can help prevent them but, when they do pop up, they're surprisingly easy to remove. Either use one of those little bobble-removing devices or gently roll velcro hair rollers over the affected area and watch those pesky little things pop off.
DON'T BE AFRAID TO EXPERIMENT
As much as I rely on basic knits because of their versatility, I also like to have fun with cardigans and jumpers. In autumn and winter, they become an integral part of my outfit, so it's nice to choose some bold, statement pieces. Anything with sequins, glitter or an obnoxious pattern and I am there! Keeping you warm while looking awesome- what more could you want?
For this knitwear-based outfit, I used the back to school season as inspiration. When I first tried on the grey checked pinafore, I wasn't too sure since the skirt is a slimmer fit than I was anticipating. However, after wearing it for a little while, I shortly came to the realisation that I felt pretty good in it! I love the dungaree-style clips at the front, the shape of the straps on the back and, of course, the fact that it has pockets!
To keep me cosy, this high neck ribbed body is perfect. The ribbing detail keeps it close to the body while the high neck and sleeves keep me toasty. There's also the benefit of it not riding up all the time! Then, of course, there's the versatility of a black crew neck cardigan. No matter what I'm wearing, I can throw this on top. It's a little thicker than other cardigans I own, so more suitable for autumn/ winter, and buttons up to surround me in lovely woolly warm goodness!
I know it's still pretty warm at the moment but it will be autumn before you know it! Best start preparing your knitwear now. What's your biggest tip?
