Winter Wonderland 2014

Last year, Rich and I visited Hyde Park's Winter Wonderland with my brother Jamie and, although we had a great time, it was New Year's Eve and we were pretty rushed. Rich and I decided to go again this year and dedicate our whole London daytrip to Winter Wonderland so we didn't need to worry about hurrying off. It was a much more enjoyable experience knowing we could take our time.

Is it just me or does Santa look like he should be in an Electric Six music video?

Rich reckons this biscuit is perfect for me! Harumph!

One of my favourite parts of the park was the huge Bavarian Great Hall in the Bavarian Village. With tankards of beer available, as well as plenty of seating in a warm, covered tent, it was the perfect place to chill out and take a rest. There was even a German band, Frontal, playing party tunes to get everybody in the mood. This adorable little boy on the left was dancing around and filming the band. So cute!

Jamie and I braved Wilde Maus last year and it was one of the funniest experiences of my life. I fully recommend it!

According to Rich, the resemblance is uncanny.

My penguin pal loves my Pharrell hat!

Another of my favourite venues was The Firepit: A bar based around a giant fire which gave off a huge amount of heat. It was so warm and cosy sitting around it, and I always find something very serene in staring at flames. I promise that didn't sound as weird in my head...

Bonus photo of Marble Arch, just because I like it!

We had a wonderful time. I think trips to Winter Wonderland are going to become an annual tradition!

  2. I really want to visit Winter Wonderland, but will probably have to wait until I have more money so I can properly experience it!
Looks like you had a lovely time though.

  5. I visited the Winter Wonderland during my London trip and i have to say i was a bit confused. I was born in Germany and spend my childhood and teenage years there so i am quite familiar with the christmas market culture but this was something completely different. To start of with the ferris weel and the other rides and then this bavaria on drugs instalments. I nearly died when i saw the elk singing in strongest bavarian accent above one stall (as in i was laughing so hard i could barely stand and made a video which i send to my german relatives). German christmas markets are usually more food and christmas decoration you can buy. Lots of handcrafted stuff etc.
It was weird for me as somebody who grew up in Germany to see the german culture taken to the point of ridiculousness. But well, no harm done. People seemed to have great fun and i think this is the most important. Was just a weird feeling to me (weird funny, not weird offensive) :). Its great that you had such a good time :)

    1. Haha, most Christmas markets in England aren't like this. They're probably more like the ones you have in Germany with crafts and food. This is just a bit tackier than most of them haha.

  8. I love the hat! I've seen a few posts about Winter Wonderland, and it's looks like a great way to get into the festive spirit. I've never had a chance to visit London at Christmas time, I'll have to add it to the list of things to do in my life!
