OOTD // Simply Be Stripes & Denim
I am into black and white right now like you wouldn't believe. My last outfit post was monochrome and now here I am wearing more black and white. Recently, I realised that autumn is on the way and I haven't got any suitable clothes. Why is it that you buy clothes all year round and then each season somehow have nothing weather appropriate? As if they could sense my predicament, Simply Be came to my rescue with this striped jumper and oversized denim jacket.

Although the black and white jumper was a no-brainer, I was a little uncertain about the high neckline. Admittedly, my one other item with a high neckline looks banging but I was still not sure how this would play out. Turns out it's amazing! It's fitted fairly close to the body but has a lot of stretch so it's true to size, and the neckline sits comfortably. If you find high necklines usually a bit restrictive, you'll be absolutely fine with this one- there's no squeezing or tightness at all. It's a decent length too. My torso is ridiculously short (in fact, once I had a custom dress made and the woman told me I'd made a mistake with my measurements. Nope, that's just my impossibly short waist) and this jumper just about covers my bum, so it should sit perfectly at hip level for those of you with torsos that don't confuse dressmakers. Another thing I love about this jumper is how lightweight it is. Although warm, it doesn't feel at all bulky so it slides effortlessly under outerwear which brings me to this freaking amazing denim jacket.
Honestly? When I ordered the jacket, I wasn't too sure. I loved the mix of denim and faux fur. I love a fur collar at the best of times and I haven't had a denim jacket since I was bluffing Irish dance moves to B*Witched in my bedroom, so there was a definite hole in my wardrobe that needed filling. What worried me was the oversized fit and the retro style. As awesome as it looked, I wasn't sure it was very me. Then I wore it shopping and felt bloody badass. Yes, it's way oversized and yes, it has a very definite early 90s shellsuit whiff about it but good God, I love it. I actually felt, dare I say it, cool. Like one of those cute girls who gets snapped for streetstyle blogs while rummaging around charity shops in Shoreditch. I'm so glad I took the risk because now I want to wear it everywhere. I sized down because of the fit and that was definitely the right decision. Since it's such a loose fit, I can comfortably layer knitwear underneath without feeling like Stay Puft Marshmallow Bedbug and, of course, the fur colllar (which is removable FYI) is super snuggly.
For my bottom half, I kept it simple with the cord A-line skirt which was another risky move for me (read more about it here) but I absolutely bleeding love the chubby Beatnik look I've got going on here. Of course I wore my Simply Be leggings (by the way, I have more than one pair of these! I'm not just constantly wearing a solitary pair of leggings!) but mixed it up with a different pair of boots. Say what? After the success of my usual suede ankle boots, I thought I'd keep an eye out for a more rain-appropriate pair to see me through autumn and winter, and picked up a cheap pair of slightly slouchy boots in Primark. I love them but Jesus, they're a pain to get on! It actually takes both me and Rich to force them onto my feet. Save yourself the hassle and get a pair with a zip like these instead!
This has been one big outfit of risks and I am pretty proud of myself, to be honest. I'm definitely stepping out of my comfort zone more and more, and I'm looking forward to pushing myself even further throughout autumn!

You can never go wrong with stripes! Absolute favourite. And that denim jacket looks so snug! I have a similar one, and I am so glad I can dig it out again.
