University Catch Up // Semester Two

I can't believe that I only have three more deadlines until I finish my master's. When I first thought about studying my MA, it seemed like a hugely overwhelming and intimidating thing but here we are, almost at the end, and I feel like I've just been swept along with a studying tide. I was picked up in September, carried along for a while, and now I've been set down at the end looking back over the past year like How did I get here? The good news is that it was far less scary than I could ever have imagined. The bad news is I don't want it to end! Now that I'm approaching the tail end, let's have a look back over my second semester. 

Differences in Undergraduate and Master's Study

Without blowing my own trumpet, I breezed through my undergrad study. Naively, I thought that working on a master's would be similar. More difficult concepts, perhaps, but more or less the same structure. Yeah, I was wrong. 

University Catch Up // After Semester One

In the middle of my first semester, I wrote a little university catch up to explain more about my modules, and promised to update later once I'd completed my assignments. That time is now so strap yourselves in and get ready for another morbid stroll with the Master of Death. Is it too early/ arrogant/ downright weird to start calling myself that?

Distance Learning Pros and Cons

If I'm completely honest, I was pretty disappointed when I found out my master's was only offered as a distance learning course. I was all excited about getting back on campus and living uni life but unfortunately I just had to go along with it. To my surprise, I love it! University Catch Up

When I first told Twitter that I'd been accepted onto my master's in Death, Religion and Culture, I got a fair few tweets asking me to share details about my course. Initially I intended to do monthly updates but it turns out that master's study is intense. Who knew, huh? Not only that but some of the concepts I've been learning are really complex and I thought going into fairly detailed ins and outs might be a bit heavy. Having said that, I do still want to share some of what's been going on so here's a (not very) brief outline.

How I applied for my master's degree

Ever since I was accepted onto my master's degree (Death, Religion and Culture at the University of WInchester, if you're new here), I've been meaning to write a little series about studying and now that I've settled in, it seems like the perfect opportunity! Let's start at the very beginning, as they say, and talk about how I applied. A lot of this will be relevant to anybody hoping to study for a postgraduate course so it should be useful, whatever you're studying.

University Book Wishlist

You remember how I quit work with plans to study for a masters? I only went and got offered a place on the course! As of September, I will be studying for a masters degree in Death, Religion and Culture at the University of Winchester. The whole application process was so stressful so I am over the moon that it's all paid off and I am on track to becoming Becky Bedbug BA (Hons) MA (and, eventually, PhD but let's not get ahead of ourselves!) During my last day at work, my colleagues very kindly presented me with an Amazon gift card so I could buy books for my course and, although I haven't received a reading list yet, I'm starting to think of the kind of texts that will be useful to me over the next academic year.
