OOTD // Gingham peplum top
I think I've shared two outfits with trousers in the entire almost-six years of this blog (I just went through my entire backlog of posts to find them and then discovered I'd used Photobucket to upload the photos and obviously they've now been removed so that was an epic waste of time!). I'm just not a fan of trousers. I like my legs to feel all free and unrestricted, and I find skater-style skirts so comfortable. But then I bought this cute top and it looked a bit weird with a full skirt so I decided to try it with a pair of trousers. You know what? I actually love them!

My gingham peplum top is made of a stretchy jersey material so it's super comfortable but I find it a little boxy on top. I probably should have sized down really because I think the problem is that it comes up large, but it still looks fine if you ask me. I adore gingham so the print is perfect for me and I love the shaping I get from the frills on the peplum and sleeves.
Since I'm not used to wearing trousers, I was a little apprehensive about these at first. I knew I wanted slightly cropped, slim-fit black trousers and these were exactly what I was looking for. When I tried them on, I was over the moon! They have a slight stretch to them so there's none of that wiggling around you get with skinny jeans, and the waistband is comfortable even when I'm sitting down. I turn up the legs a little and, because the material is quite stiff, they stay in place all day. I really thought I'd feel uncomfortable and restricted in trousers but these are the complete opposite. I still prefer skirts, but it's nice having a little more variety.
I'd probably normally pair this outfit with black shoes but because I'd already packed something ridiculous like five pairs of shoes for a week-long trip (Hiking boots? Check! Heels for birthday meal? Check! Skechers for sightseeing? Check! Espadrilles for looking cute? Check!), I thought it was best to stick with a neutral pair of nude ballet flats that I could pair with any outfit. Somehow that makes it feel much more practical and I forget about the fact I've got a whole suitcase rammed full of shoes back at the hotel.
If you have a really good memory, you might remember this location from this festive outfit. It's the garden of the Schloss Leopoldskron hotel in Salzburg. I've banged on about this place enough by now but it's absolutely my favourite place in the world. If I won the lottery, I would permanently book a room there. It's such a peaceful, relaxing setting and I feel like I'm home every time I return. It's only been a few months and I miss it so much already. Can I go back now?
