OOTD // ELVI jacquard mini skirt

When you're plus size, you pick up a lot on what other plus size folk say about clothing brands. It's not as easy for us to just walk into any high street shop and pick something up off the rails, so word of mouth is super important. One of the brands I'd heard a lot about was ELVI, particularly about how generous their sizing was. When I got an email asking if I'd like to try out one of their pieces, I was really excited to find out for myself whether ELVI lived up to the hype. Let me tell you now- I was not disappointed!

Looking through the website trying to choose something to feature was one of those proper 'how on earth am I going to choose?' moments. Unlike most plus-size-inclusive brands, ELVI is full of sophisticated, classic pieces. None of this butterfly tunic business! Delicate tea dresses, ethereal maxis and smart tailoring lead the way, so it's perfect for a more classy and expensive look (although, despite the costly appearance, the prices are actually very reasonable!) Garments run in sizes 8 to 28, and ELVI strive for body positivity. It's very refreshing to find a brand where every item is available in all sizes, so you can wear whatever you want, rather than what the designers deem 'flattering'.

Eventually I settled on this OSMO jacquard mini skirt and I could not stop thinking about it! From the gorgeous mint and pink colour palette, to the pretty floral pattern, to the 60s-inspired shape. Just everything about it made my heart beat and I couldn't wait for it to arrive. When I finally got my hands on it, it was even more beautiful than I'd expected- the thick jacquard material is embroidered with shimmery green thread that catches the light, and the cut out detail at the bottom adds a modern edge. Oh, and by the way, it has pockets!!! With close-fitting items, I tend to size up, so I did the same here. It turns out the rumours of ELVI's generous sizing are true. Although it's thankfully not too big, there is definitely plenty of room and I would have been very comfortable with my usual size, or maybe even a size down, so that's something to bear in mind for future.

Something else I loved about this skirt was the versatility of it. On a warm, sunny day, I could pair it with a white t-shirt for a casual look, or go for a more retro look for autumn with a knitted jumper. The day that I took these photos was on the cooler side, so I pulled out my black turtleneck and suede ankle boots. I really, really love the overall effect and feel a little bit like I'm in an episode of Heartbeat. The only slight problem I had was that where the material is stiff to retain its shape, it got a little creased in the car, but it's so gorgeous that this isn't a big issue.

I'm incredibly grateful to ELVI for the opportunity to try their brand, and I'll definitely be checking out their new collections in future. My wardrobe will never look the same again!
