London Fashion Week SS15

Yesterday morning, Marie and I set off early to London to attend the Meadham Kirchhoff open casting call. They'd emphasised that model looks were not required, and the queue was made up of people of all shapes and sizes. Although it was a little nerve-wracking, everybody was really friendly. We just had to have a head shot taken and then walk twice up and down a little taped-out "catwalk" to the sounds of Madonna. They gave no indication of what they're looking for, and I'm pretty certain dumpy, bespectacled girls aren't it, but it was a really fun experience to have. Something to tell the grandkids!
After a quick sushi stop, we headed over to Somerset House to check out some street style. It was the first time I'd been to Fashion Week with somebody else, and Marie was the best person to go with as she's so disdainful of fashion. Walking with her saying "I just don't get it" repeatedly was hilarious!

When I last went, a couple of years ago, I put a lot of thought into my outfit and tried to look super stylish. I soon realised that I wasn't going to compete with the ultra-fashionistas though, so this time I just threw on my trusty Primark maxi skirt and body. It might not be super swish but I blooming love this outfit! It's so bloody comfortable.

Marie looked a bit more fancy, with her pretty 50s repro dress and matching hair band. I forgot about the cobbles and didn't warn her not to wear heels. Seriously guys, don't wear heels!

This outfit is honestly the stuff of my dreams. I need that jacket in my life!

I approached this cute girl to ask for a photo and she surprised me by knowing exactly who I was! Turns out it's Ellie of Rose and Vintage and she has the most gorgeous glasses ever!

She's also bloody beautiful and a real sweetie.
Somehow, I always seem to be in the same place at the same time as Zoe of Zoe London, but never cross paths with her. Marie actually spotted her first, and commented on how great her hair is, but I chickened out of saying hi. After passing her a couple more times, Marie pretty much forced me to approach her. Thankfully, she is absolutely lovely and didn't make me feel like an awkward weirdo. Thank you, Zoe!

It was great fun to be back on the cobbles, and to actually experience it with somebody else this time. I'm still holding out for taking Myles one day, for his unique fashion commentary. Maybe next season...

Hyper Japan Street Style

Yesterday I visited Hyper Japan and had a fantastic time. One of the best things was the huge array of beautifully dressed people and the incredible cosplay. I took so many photos of the attendees that they deserved their own post. First, though, let's take a look at what I was wearing.
Wig: Ebay
Dress: Meadham Kirchhoff x Topshop
Socks: Meadham Kirchhoff x Topshop
Jelly shoes: Primark
Marie was dressed as Setsuna from Towa Koku and looked adorable!
Creepy red eyes!
This Flufflepuff cosplay was the greatest thing ever!

Amelia approached me and asked if we could have a photo together since we were wig twins.
She is adorable!
Rachel is a total cutie and a blogger too! Her Instagram is filled with the cutest things, so check it out!
Sarah also has a really inspiring Instagram.

Judy's at Old Spitalfields: Street Style

As I mentioned yesterday, this month's vintage market with Judy's at Old Spitalfields was one of the best for gorgeous attendees. There were so many amazingly stylish people that I couldn't get a photo of all of them. Seriously. I'd see two people in close proximity, take a photo of one with the intention to snap the other next, then when I'd turn around, they'd have vanished!

Nevertheless, I did manage to grab a lot of very lovely shoppers for you all to admire! They were all a lot of fun too. That's one of the best thing about Judy's at Old Spitalfields- There's none of that "too cool for school" attitude.
Ashleigh is a real cutie. I love the idea of wearing a bedjacket as a blouse.
I can assure you, I was not this cute in my younger years!
Pastel hair and floral vintage dresses? Perfect!
I love a good polkadot skirt, but the hair and make up is super cute too.
The aubergine and pea colour combination, teamed with a stunning psychedelic mini dress, is absolutely beautiful.
These girls were in demand by the street style snappers! It's not really a surprise though. And they look so much fun too!
It wasn't all about the cute customers. Kathy is the stallholder for 5-6-7-8 Vintage and definitely gives the shoppers a run for their money in the style stakes!
Finally, I leave you with these guys who were absolutely hilarious! They didn't have a name for their stall when I asked, but decided on The Dressing Room. The guy wanted something more "business savvy" so I suggested The Dressing Room (Business Savvy). Reckon it will take on?

Vogue Festival 2013

I was desperate to go to the first Vogue Festival last year, but I couldn't afford a ticket at the time. So this year, I was determined to get one. I had a whole list of events I wanted to go to, but tickets went on sale in the middle of the month so I had to wait until payday to see what was left available. Luckily for me, one of the events on my wishlist was still available.

This event was Alber Elbaz: The Dream and Reality of Fashion. I first read about Elbaz, the creative director of Lanvin, in one of the first Vogue magazines I bought. This funny little character really appealed to me- He doesn't take himself too seriously and seemed to be a very witty, quirky guy.

Unfortunately, I missed my train and ended up getting to the venue about 8 minutes late. Thankfully, there was a lovely guy on the door who sneaked me in. To say I was relieved was an understatement!

Alexandra Schulman, editor of British Vogue, led Elbaz in conversation, discussing how he uses fashion to make women feel good about themselves. Let me tell you now, this guy is inspirational! He is so funny, filled with anecdotes (one that stands out for me is the woman who  introduced him as "The man at Lan-Vin who designs the stuff" and leads him to label himself as a Stuff Designer) and words of wisdom.

"Fashion is not about a second skin. Fashion is about a fantasy"

"I guess I'm a contradiction. I am what I hate"

"I like perfection but I think that perfect is the most dangerous thing, because there is nothing after perfect"

"You have to let go and be who you are. If you look like Danny DeVito, that's ok. As long as you feel good"

After the talk, in which some jammy girl managed to bag a personalised sketch of herself from him, I ventured out into the hall. It was manic. I could barely move for the amount of the people that were crammed into this tiny space. Maybe somewhere larger would have been better.

There was a Vogue Braid Bar, where you could have your hair braided into one of five different styles. It was included in the ticket price, but the queue was huge so I decided to give it a miss. I'd probably have been too upset at taking it out in the evening anyway!

As well as the braid bar, there was a Dior make up counter. I had already applied full make up, and I didn't feel like relinquishing control of my face to a stranger, so I just hung back and watched.

Of course, being the Vogue Festival, there was gorgeous style inspiration everywhere you looked.

This 80s jacket is amazing. How do people spot these things? If I saw this in a charity shop, I'd probably laugh at how hideous it is! How do people manage to look past that and make it look amazing? I must learn their secrets!

The greatest floral blazer ever. I would totally wear this. If I was a blazer girl. Which I'm not.

Pretty lace top (and braid-barred-on-up) and killer, killer boots!

I pretty much fell in love with this gorgeous chica on the spot. The hair, the jacket, the (just visible) unicorn brooch...and can you spot the douche bag? Seriously, amazing!

I like to take photos of people taking photos.

Overall, I had a lovely time. I think it would have been a better experience if I'd been able to share it with somebody else though. Any takers for next year?

Tuesday

London Fashion Week AW13

It's that time of the year again- London Fashion Week. After attending last season, and finding it absolutely terrifying, I was very pleased to discover that it's a lot less intimidating the second time round.

Somerset House is so beautiful, especially in such bright sunlight.

I spotted this girl walking over Waterloo Bridge. I loved her pastel creepers and two-tone tights.
I bumped into her later and the rest of her outfit was just as cute. I love the ombre jumper.

Aren't these tights adorable? I love the tie dye socks too.

What an incredible sequinned top! I love flamingo-print clothing!

Everything about this girl is perfection- Her stunning hair, those gold cigarette pants, the tartan jacket, that hat...

What a beauty! Incredible trousers, cute sunglasses, adorable hair and a lovely face too. Jealous, me?

You know I love a bit (or a lot) of backcombing! This gorgeous tartan cape was a charity shop discovery. Great find!

Polkadots! Polkadots own my heart. Especially monochrome polkadots. And particularly monochrome polkadots teamed with Converse.

Beautiful clashing of floral prints. I love the tapestry bag and the hat is gorgeous too.

Cobalt blue is such a key colour this season. I can't wait to embrace it myself.

How pretty is this plait! I'll definitely be trying a classic braid when my hair's a bit longer.

Too. Much. Fashion. Inspiration.

I didn't stay long before my fingers succumbed to the cold and I headed home, snapping some photos of the beautiful setting sun as I crossed the bridge.
