Brighton Pride Look and 52 Shoes XXV

Sunglasses: Primark
Top: H&M
Pinafore: New Look
Socks: Topshop
Shoes: Dorothy Perkins

The theme of Brighton Pride this year was Gay Icons so I decided to dress inspired by the world's biggest gay icon- Dorothy herself! Everyone could be a friend of Dorothy with me! (I was also once told I look like Judy Garland and I'm desperately clinging onto that comparison!)
Can we take a moment to appreciate my amazing Dolce & Gabbana-esque sunglasses. Primark. £2. Woohoo!
I got these shoes about two years ago but they were a little big so I only wore them once. I cracked them out again today and they were perfect for my ruby slippers! Especially when paired with my cute frilly socks!

5 ways to beat blogger envy

I'm pretty sure every blogger has felt envious at some point. I know I have! I remember looking at one particular blog, which had 300 followers, and being desperately jealous that, although it had started in the same month as me, it had so many more followers than mine did.
Of course, the problem is that jealousy gets you nowhere. All it does it fester inside you and turn you bitter. Not exactly the most productive approach!

Luckily, I managed to turn this around and use it to my advantage. It might sound odd, but it is possible to turn blogger envy into a positive.

By the way, I struggled to find relevant photos for this, so I used photos of me with other bloggers. You know, to represent harmony within the blogging community or something. Mostly of Leona since I don't have many other photos of me with other bloggers.
Me with Helen, Becca and Islay. Photo taken by Islay.

Review: Too Faced Perfect Flush Blush

I've wanted this blush ever since I first saw that amazing heart-shaped box on Georgia's blog. I am a big fan of blusher. I own 7 which, although not exactly a massive amount, is probably still more than the average woman. I also wear a lot it. Yes, I probably apply too much, but my pink cheeks are my trademark.

We might as well start with the packaging. Look at it. Just look at it. It's amazing! The box is made of thick card, so is perhaps not as stable as it could be. I wouldn't be very confident carting it around in my bag. Luckily, I never take my make up anywhere with me so it's ok. Inside, the blush is displayed in a convex pan which seems to be fairly deep. It features three stripes of pink shades- a coral, a salmon and a fuschia- and has a visible sheen to it.

I applied it with a kabuki brush as I couldn't find my blusher brush and I was surprised at how subtle it applied. As I said, I tend to like a bold application, and this took me a good while to build it up to the effect I wanted. Probably a plus point for other people, but a bit of a pain for me. It also seemed to apply quite unevenly. Even though I swirled the blush, it still seemed to apply in stripes of colours. However, it does have a pretty, natural shimmer to it.
At £24, this is the typical price I pay for a blusher. For that price, I would expect something a little more pigmented, so I don't think I'll buy it again, but perhaps it will grow on me. We'll see.

Friday

FF L

I found about the A Beautiful Mess 30-day self-portrait challenge 10 days too late. I want to join in and complete it, so I'll extending it for those extra 10 days. Are you joining us?
Danny shared his watermelon t shirt tutorial on Lazy Explorers. It's amazing!
There is a sniper in this photo, with a huge massive gun! Hint: He's not in the hole, although I was convinced he was for ages!
Leona has perfected the fishtail plait and I am super jealous!
Kate Gabrielle went to see Despicable Me 2 and dressed up as a minion. Adorbs!
I think this is the greatest website of all time!
I would say that I need to stop sharing Jes' posts every Friday but, actually, she's too awesome for that: How to kick ass on a daily basis
I had so many of these 90s toys and I had totally forgotten about them until now.
I saw this on Twitter and it cracked me up since the girl on the left is blatantly Richard Osman time travelling in drag, and the one on the right Stephen Fry. The one in the middle looks like Donny Osmond too. Just not in drag. Actual Donny Osmond in the 70s

Book review: A Room of One's Own

A Room of One's Own- Virginia Woolf
I'd never read any Virginia Woolf before but, after recently finishing The Hours, I thought it was high time that I ventured into her writing. A Room of One's Own is a tiny book; A paper that expands upon a one-hour speech that Woolf made about women and fiction. She discusses the history of women authors and questions the historical societal rules that dictate how women write.
The first thing of note is Woolf's writing style. It is beautiful. She paints a scene with wonderful, flowing descriptions and invites the reader into her mind as she ponders everything with innate curiosity. Secondly, it's very apparent that she was way ahead of her time. She really understood the future and seems almost eerily knowing about the path of women ahead.

I found this text hugely inspirational. Reading it, I began to feel as though I could write, and publish, a text. Why can't I? Why can't any woman? It's such an empowering text that makes you believe that anything is possible.
Overall, I think it's a hugely important book to read. It highlights the role of women not just as authors, but as members of society, both in centuries past and in Woolf's era. It highlights just how far women have come in the past century and makes me very grateful to be alive today, when we have so many opportunities.

Monsters University, Nando's chicken and arcade games

I've been looking forward to the second Monsters Inc film since 2001. Yesterday, I finally got to see Monsters University. I absolutely loved it! Totes emosh! I took Myles with me and we had a great time.

Remember when Myles was actually good at taking photos? We accidentally sat in the VIP seats. We arrived whilst the trailers were on, and everybody else was there. Rather than stumble through the dark and disturb people, we just sat in the nearest free seats. Halfway through the film, Myles suddenly turned to me and asked "Are we sitting in the VIP seats?" Whoops!

Of course, afterwards we headed to Nando's. I do love some peri peri chicken!

Whilst waiting for our mum to pick us up, we chilled out in the amusement arcade. I took photos of everything, much to Myles' humiliation!

Word of August: Grow

Can you believe August is here already? This year seems to have shot by before I barely got a look at it! Hopefully it will slow down over the summer so I can really enjoy it.

Now that we've postponed our wedding to next year, I have a full summer off work to relax. When I say relax, I mean blog. I'm going to be a full time blogger for the entirety of August and I am so excited about it!

Last summer was when I really developed my blog. I practised my photography and started using the editing process that you see today. I experimented with my look and started wearing red lipstick and a beehive on a daily basis. I started taking my outfit photos on my bed. It was the first step towards becoming a "real" blog as opposed to a half-hearted hobby. As a result of my dedicated development, my readership increased massively.

Now I want to replicate that success but on a grander scale. Here's the deal- I have five targets this month due to the extra time I can devote to my blog. I aim to increase my followers by 10% across every platform- Bloglovin', Twitter, Instagram, the whole shebang. This is how I'll do it:
  • Develop a blogging daily schedule. Something along the lines of 10-12: Catch up on blogs. 12-2: Promote and network. You get the drift.
  • Spend an hour per day on high-quality promotion.
  • Go on at least one excursion a week. Not only to get me out of the house and give me more content to blog about, but also to find inspiration and meet new people.
  • Post at least three outfit posts per week.
  • Post at least two "helpful" blog posts: Tutorials, tips, stuff like that.
Because I have the time to spend on stuff like this, I've drawn up a little target chart:

Rachel from Girl Karma very sensibly pointed out that it would be a good idea to include links so people can follow. If you want to help me out, here you go:
