OOTD // Dungarees

I think the last time I wore dungarees, I was about 3. I still remember this dark green cord pair I had. Oh, the 90s! I've toyed with the idea of trying a pair out for the past few years, and tested the waters with a couple of dungaree style dresses (here and here), but I've left it until now to go the whole hog. I saw this gorgeous black pair and I just couldn't resist giving it a go. Man, I wish I'd done it earlier! Plus size dungarees

I stumbled upon this pair of dungarees on H&M (now sold out unfortunately) and my initial response was H&M? ABORT! ABORT! but I just couldn't get them out of my mind. Eventually I figured I might as well order them and then I could always return them if necessary. I know from experience that H&M are terrible for sizing and I'd never worn anything from their plus size range so I was a little unsure about what size to go for. Usually for trousers I'd buy a 20 but I decided to go up three sizes. There was no particular reason why- I just took a punt. Fortunately my instincts were correct as they fit absolutely perfectly! The material is slightly stretchy so it's super comfortable and I don't feel squished (although I do struggle looping the straps over my back as I have short arms. Instead I have to throw them over my shoulder and hit myself in the head about 80% of the time).

Once I'd tried on the dungarees and was satisfied that I didn't look like Tweedledee, my next dilemma was deciding what the hell do I wear on my feet? Usually I'm a ballet flats kinda girl but I'm not sure they work so well with dungarees. After consulting Twitter, I settled on classic black Converse which worked brilliantly.

The great thing about plain black dungarees is that I don't really need to think about what top to wear underneath since pretty much anything goes. This long sleeved grey striped top is from Primark, but I've also worn them with a black and white crop top and a simple polo neck. With my padded black backpack from Peacocks to hold my stuff, I was good to go!

I'm so glad I finally decided to try dungarees. I feel so cute in them and they are insanely comfortable. Is it excessive to have a whole wardrobe of different dungarees?

  1. You look so cool! I've yet to try this trend but you've inspired me now. Also think this could look cool with a collared shirt underneath!

  3. These dungarees look great on you. I've had the shorts dungarees in the past but I really have grown out of them. Maybe one day I'll venture as far as getting this kind of dungaree. I also hate that H&M aren't accurate with their sizing, it's very annoying.

  4. Becky, you look absolutely adorable! I seriously love these dungarees! I especially love that they're black, rather than all the blue denim ones I've seen about. :)

  5. These are so cute! I had a pair of baggy brown ones I lived in as a teenager and I loved them so much, I definitely think it's time to invest in a new set!

  6. I'd love a pair of dungarees like this but at just under 6ft tall items like this usually mean an eternal wedgie unless a tall range happens to do a pair I like. Oh and I've just bought a floral pair of black lace up pumps from Primark for £3 that I think would look amazing with these x
