Can fat people wear...? is a series that roadtests current trends on a fat body. Of course, the moral of the story is "wear whatever you want", but I'll be sharing how I felt, how I looked and the reactions I received as a chubby girl in the latest trends. Fat is used here as a tongue-in-cheek, yet factual, adjective, rather than a derogatory term and always, always remember "If you like it, wear it".
I never thought I'd own a pair of jeggings. Although I wear leggings every single day, I am not a jeans fan. I think I've worn jeans two or three times in the past 4 years or so. They just feel so constrictive and restrictive, and that is not how I want to feel in my clothes. Jeggings seemed much the same to me- tight-fitting like leggings but with all the rigidity of denim. No thanks. Then we had a French Day at work so I bought a pair from Tesco to wear a French-themed outfit. I loved them but they were a little too small so I picked up a larger pair in Primark instead, hoping they'd be more comfortable.

Can fat people wear maxi dresses?

I've never been a fan of maxi anything: Dresses, skirts, even trousers! Then, last year, I bought this striped maxi skirt and absolutely fell in love. Since then, I've been a lot more open-minded and couldn't wait until this summer so I could wear all the maxi dresses. I might have gone a bit overboard though, as I've bought four in the past week!
Can fat people wear joggers?

If you go through my outfit posts, you'll notice that I never, ever wear trousers. This isn't because I hate trousers, it's purely because they do not fit me. Ever. I have massive thighs and hips, with a proportionately small waist and long legs so it's impossible to find the right fit. Joggers, I figured, would be perfect. Elasticated waist, baggy around the thighs, tight at the ankles. Turns out, I could even find a pair of joggers to fit me on the high street. My thighs were beyond high street sizing. That is until New Look got in touch and gave me the opportunity to try these monochrome joggers* from their summer Inspire range. I sized up and, would you believe it, they fit perfectly!
My black top is from Primark and, I'm not going to lie to you, it was pretty see through. I may or may not have Photoshopped the bosom area so you couldn't see my bra. Is that dishonest? Probably not if I tell you about it.
As I said above, the joggers are from New Look's Inspire range. They're made of a soft, light jersey that feels almost like pyjama bottoms, with elasticated waist and ankles and a drawstring to tighten the waist if necessary.
On my feet, I have my faithful Crocs and I don't care what you say, they're the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn in my life!
At first, I wasn't sure if they looked right on me but I think that might just be because I'm not used to seeing myself in trousers. Initially I worried that the thighs were too baggy and looked a little MC Hammer but I soon got over that. Actually, I think they look pretty good. There's no disguising my chunky thighs but the elasticated cuffs definitely make my legs look more tapered and streamlined and the busy pattern disguises any lumps and bumps. My waist is one of my favourite parts of my body so I'm glad these joggers nip it in and show it off. I actually feel like they make me look a bit more dainty than usual too... which is quite some feat because there's nothing dainty about me!
Comfy! Oh, so comfy! It felt liberating to not have my legs constricted by my usual leggings and yet still have them covered (and free of chub rub!) The jersey is so light that it floats around my legs and stops any clinging, rubbing or sweating. Seriously, these are like a socially acceptable way of wearing pyjama bottoms outside the home. I never want to take them off!
I promise I do have two legs!
Apart from the pub playing the first minute of U Can't Touch This just after I'd loudly exclaimed that I feel like MC Hammer (something that surely cannot be a coincidence!), they barely raised an eyebrow. Which, as all plus size girls will know, is a very good thing!
Wardrobe, wardrobe, wardrobe! I would wear these every day if I could!

Can Fat People Wear Sports Luxe?

I never really saw the appeal in sports luxe. Being a chubby girl, it's not like I have any interest in sports, so sporty clothes just didn't seem relevant to me. Then I saw this Sooty top and all my athletic aversions left me. In case you didn't catch that, it's a Sooty top. Well, it's actually a Sooty pyjama top but if I want to wear it in public, I will godammit!
Bloody amazing! I was skipping down the road. Not only was this outfit hella comfy but it was also super practical. I wore it to a Lush event so I didn't have to worry about getting glitter all over it since the jersey fabrics are so easy to wash. Wearing this, I felt cute but also very "me". The top makes a statement and I loved that. Huge confidence boost. Thanks, Sooty!
I think I looked awesome! From an objective viewpoint, I can see that the oversized sleeves made my arms look narrower and wearing the top tucked into my skirt pulled in my waistline. The skirt was super short but my leggings stopped it being indecent!
The staff at Lush loved it! I had so many fantastic comments about how much they loved it and how cute Sooty was. It really did make me feel on top of the world!

My Sooty pyjama top is from Primark and it's supposed to be a cropped style but, as I have the Shortest Torso in the World Ever Fact, it fits me like a normal top. It has an oversized fit (this is a size 14-16) with turn-up cuffs on the sleeves. What you can't see here is that it says "SOOTY" in big, bright pink lettering just above the hem.
My Topshop skirt is one of my wardrobe essentials, especially when worn over plain black leggings like these. FYI, I buy all my leggings from New Look^
as they are super afforable but also good quality and not as sheer as some other budget brands.
To complete my look, I wore my battered old Converse
^ to continue the sporty vibe but kept things cute with a bow hairband from Accessorize.

I'm not even sure if this will reach my wardrobe as I want to wear it every damn day. I felt so confident in it but also as if I was making a real statement. Not only can fat girls wear sports luxe, but they can also wear novelty prints and nightwear as daywear. Everyone should try it!

Can Fat People Wear Biker Jackets?
Can fat people wear pastel pink furry biker jackets, no less!
Can fat people wear...? is a series that roadtests current trends on a fat body. Of course, the moral of the story is "wear whatever you want", but I'll be sharing how I felt, how I looked and the reactions I received as a chubby girl in the latest trends. I adore this colour and tend to think it looks quite good on me. The furry collar, when zipped up, gave my neck and jaw a more elegant appearance. However, because I have an insanely short torso, there was too much fabric around my waist and back and, since it's a heavy fabric, it stuck out like a cupcake. When I unzipped the jacket, this wasn't an issue, but it did end up disguising my waist and making me look a bit shapeless. The arms were also too long for my teeny tiny T-rex limbs!
I felt like a badass princess or a rebel Barbie. A good girl who's fed up with rules and wants to live a little! Although I felt a little uncomfortable at the amount of extra fabric puffing up the back, Badass Barbie wouldn't care about that so neither did I! Now I want to pair this with my leather leggings. Too much?
Erm, I had no reaction but, then again, I didn't really have many opportunities to garner reactions. Although I went to the shops, I didn't buy anything so there was nobody to make small talk with. It's almost like people didn't care what I was wearing. Who would have thought?

Wardrobe for sure! I blooming love it and I cannot wait to wear it more now the weather's warming up a little and leaving winter coat season!

Can fat people wear fluffy coats?
Can fat people wear...? is a series that roadtests current trends on a fat body. Of course, the moral of the story is "wear whatever you want", but I'll be sharing how I felt, how I looked and the reactions I received as a chubby girl in the latest trends. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this new series! It's something I've had in the pipeline for a couple of months now and I've finally been able to tackle it. The disclaimer above pretty much explains everything so, without too much of an introduction, today I am roadtesting a fluffy coat.
The details
Blue-grey fluffy jacket- Primark.
How I looked
With the jacket fastened, I looked... well, big and fluffy. Although it has an extra button around the waist (which was actually at my waist too- a rarity for my short torso!) which gave some shape to my figure, it clung pretty frumpishly to my hips, especially when I had items in my pocket, and gave me a strangely pyradimal shape.
When unfastened, however, it draped dramatically from my shoulders, falling around my curves rather than clinging to them, and framing my body. Suddenly the length seemed a lot more flattering this way too.

How I felt
Amazing! The jacket was so warm and snuggly that I could happily give myself bear hugs in the middle of the street and not care. There was such a sense of fun radiating from it that I ended up skipping merrily down the road. Dumpy pyramid or not, I felt awesome!
Reactions
Rich laughed in my face and said I looked like an owl. Pfft! Maybe I want to look like an owl, buddy!
Wardrobe or return?
This is going in my wardrobe for sure! (Though I think I'll be wearing it open most of the time).
