I never thought I'd own a pair of jeggings. Although I wear leggings every single day, I am not a jeans fan. I think I've worn jeans two or three times in the past 4 years or so. They just feel so constrictive and restrictive, and that is not how I want to feel in my clothes. Jeggings seemed much the same to me- tight-fitting like leggings but with all the rigidity of denim. No thanks. Then we had a French Day at work so I bought a pair from Tesco to wear a French-themed outfit. I loved them but they were a little too small so I picked up a larger pair in Primark instead, hoping they'd be more comfortable.
DETAILS
These dark grey, acid-wash jeggings are from Primark and the striped vest is from Tesco. My polkadot-mesh shoes, which you can see more clearly below, and spotty cardigan are also from Primark.
HOW I LOOKED
I'll be honest: I wasn't particularly enamoured with how they looked on. To my eyes, my legs looked like they were squished into sausage casing, although Rich assured me I was wrong. Not trusting my husband's opinion (since he is legally bound to think I look amazing no matter what I wear), I turned to Twitter. The support I found there convinced me to wear them but, even now, I'm not sure if they look great on me. My thighs are pretty chubby and this shows them off and, as I can't tuck my top into the waistband like I do with skirts, my torso looks a lot more boxy than usual. I'm not convinced.
HOW I FELT
Other than feeling like a sausage, these jeggings were so uncomfortable. I put this down to Primark's sizing: The size 16 Tesco ones were just a little too small, whereas the size 20 Primark ones fit exactly the same. The waistband is too low, so it kept slipping down past my tummy, and they wouldn't stay up, instead creeping down my thighs, leaving a couple of inches at the top getting all chub-rubbed. Having to ask Rich to help me hoik them up every half an hour didn't exactly make me feel particularly glamorous!
REACTION
As I said, Rich liked them but then he is obligated to. The reactions I got on Twitter were wonderful, ranging from "you look lovely" to "tasty like a sausage". Away from the internet, I didn't get any horrified stares or mistaken for butchers' stock, although I did wear them to my doctor's appointment and he didn't pounce on me so could be better!
WARDROBE OR RETURN?
Oh, jeez, I don't know! I suspect these will end up languishing in my spare room with all the other clothes I bought but never wear. Maybe I'll head back to Tesco and see if I can find theirs in a size 18.
Side note: Isn't this location gorgeous? When I was having therapy, my sessions took place on the 6th floor of an office block in town and right on the horizon, miles away, I could see this row of tall, pointed trees. After a lot of research and scouring Google Maps, Rich and I found out where they were and vowed to visit the location once I could drive. It turned out to be a lovely little Hampshire village called Heckfield, which is where these photos were taken. I think I'm going to start picking villages in a 20 mile radius at random and exploring them.
That's a shame you didn't find them comfy, they look awesome with your outfit! I like anything acid wash, although I'm not a fan of jeggings either, because I feel like they don't fit as well as leggings or jeans. I'd say they're probably good for lazing around if you get some comfy ones, but I do all my lazing around in PJs so maybe not haha.
ReplyDeleteThat place does look lovely - is it Heckfield House?! I've never been but it is a pretty area in general, just up the road from where I work!
ReplyDeleteUncia and Tigris
It was Highfield Park hotel, if that helps?
DeleteHahaha, tasty like a sausage was me 😊 I still think you look lovely in these but I'm with you on not wanting to wear clothes that feel restrictive! Lisa x
ReplyDeleteNo, they look fine, though it might be an idea to have tops that don't end at the widest part of your hips as the horizontal line tends to emphasise width. I tried bambook leggings this year from a festival stall and I wouldn't get any other kind now. They are so soft and comfortable and breathable and I think the strength and stretchability of bamboo will make them last longer.
DeleteI love jeggings, I have the ones from Peacocks, they're comfy and look good on (imo), however the inner thigh wears away so fast it is obscene so they don't last very long at all. I've had 4 pairs so far and all have been the same sadly.

DeleteYou look amazing and absolutely love how you don't care what anyone thinks about you. We need more people in the world like you, who love themselves no matter what size you are <3 I think you should keep them!!

I think they loook good but it's more about feeling comfortable in what you're wearing.

I can't wear jeggings as I need a button to get on and off. I owned a pair form primark as well and had the same issues. I prefer leggings- i prefer comfort! Lol

I have a few pairs of jeggings that are made of the material of leggings but made to look like jeans. They don't come in number sizes just S, M, L, XL, etc. They are the comfiest things in existence and I wear them so often!

Hi, where did you get them from? I'm not sure all jeggings are the same material as leggings.
DeleteYou look great...beautiful :)

Bleurgh, jeggings. I'm no fan of those
ReplyDeleteI'm another one in the camp that says they look lovely on you. But I get what you mean about restrictive. I've attempted buying jeggings from Primark before and they were ridiculously tight (even when I sized up). I found my perfect pair at dorothy perkins that I buy time and time again - no trouble getting them on and off and so comfy. I think if you found the right brand for you then it would be more comfortable but you should wear whatever you want - I like your leggings and dress looks :) x
ReplyDeleteI think they look great, it's a shame they felt uncomfortable. Jeans/jeggings are a bugger to find the right pair though so I wouldn't give up you will find the perfect pair x
ReplyDeleteI think you look great but obviously your comfort is more important. Definitely try and get the 18 in Tesco.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Your hair is so wonderfully long, I love it x

I've never done jeggings - I wore leggings religiously for years, and have reently gone completely off them and gone back to jeans. I now live in jeans.
ReplyDeleteMaybe try highwaisted soft jeans? They elongate the legs (needed for someone who is 5ft2) and distract from tummy issues! I love them!

I am a jeggings fan forevsss! I get mine from Dorothy perkins and they are perfect. They are quite high rise so you don't get a muffin top and they don't fall down either. The black ones have a little more stretch in them and they are comfy, not tight and restrictive!

I'm with you on jeans feeling restrictive, I have to buy stretchy denim with lots of lycra (so practically jeggings but with a proper waistband) otherwise they cut in to me in all sorts of places. New Look make the most comfortable jeans for me, they're so stretchy and comfy I swear I could sleep in them. I've never gotten on with Primark trousers, I find they cut them into strange sizes. I always find them too big at the waist and hips but too small at the calves of all places.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame they're not comfortable. I have a pair of Jeggings that I love and will never part from.
ReplyDeleteYou look great!!! A pity you weren't comfy. It took me a while too, to try out jeggings due to the fact I ain't super slim, but now I love them! My favourite is actually an in between leggings and jeggings they look like pants but they slip on ... no buttons or zippers and they are made a sorta stretchy fabric. Hope you try another pair sometime, because you looked totally fab!!!

How beautiful is the setting?! I'd love to visit different places. I say go for it now you're driving :)
ReplyDeleteJeggings annoy me sooo much! I can't stand the waistband rolling down over my belly plus I have thighs like a rugby player and in my tiny head wearing baggy pants makes sense. Lol. I know I probably look fatter but it's hard to break a habit.
Hope you find the tesco ones in your size to try :)

When I was a 16 I wouldn't wear leggings but as soon as I found jeggings I was in love! I still am now at a size 8-10. I don't wear jeans too - I feel like a frump in them and also I love the comfort of jeggings.

I'm a big fan of jeggings but do find Primark's to be a little restrictive. You look great, I agree with your husband & the general consensus of Twitter :)

Oh gosh this spoke to me on a spiritual level... I cant wear Jeans or Jeggings, I have naturally chunky thighs and the denim material makes me feel like my thighs are magnified x1000.
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and I'm in love!
Kirsty @ www.wordsleftunspoken.com
You do look great, definitely not sausage-casing legs...although I always thoughts jeggings were more legging-ey material and not denim? Denims are so uncomfortable! I don't know how people wear them so much! x
ReplyDeleteAlso, that setting is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't tend to wear jeggings because I find they always creep down too and I'm constantly yanking them up! It must just be the material! I think they look great anyhow, and I love the spotty cardigan!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love jeggings - they're the most comfortable type of clothing for me but you do have to find the right size to be comfortable, otherwise they do feel way too tight.

You're so beautifulllll
ReplyDeleteGeorge at Asda jeggings are great, the ones with denim waist (not black elastic) they are up to size 24 but hard to find, great value, last years
