Can Fat People Wear Sports Luxe?

Can fat people wear...? is a series that roadtests current trends on a fat body. Of course, the moral of the story is "wear whatever you want", but I'll be sharing how I felt, how I looked and the reactions I received as a chubby girl in the latest trends. Fat is used here as a tongue-in-cheek, yet factual, adjective, rather than a derogatory term and always, always remember "If you like it, wear it".

I never really saw the appeal in sports luxe. Being a chubby girl, it's not like I have any interest in sports, so sporty clothes just didn't seem relevant to me. Then I saw this Sooty top and all my athletic aversions left me. In case you didn't catch that, it's a Sooty top. Well, it's actually a Sooty pyjama top but if I want to wear it in public, I will godammit!

My Sooty pyjama top is from Primark and it's supposed to be a cropped style but, as I have the Shortest Torso in the World Ever Fact, it fits me like a normal top. It has an oversized fit (this is a size 14-16) with turn-up cuffs on the sleeves. What you can't see here is that it says "SOOTY" in big, bright pink lettering just above the hem.

My Topshop skirt is one of my wardrobe essentials, especially when worn over plain black leggings like these. FYI, I buy all my leggings from New Look^ as they are super afforable but also good quality and not as sheer as some other budget brands.

To complete my look, I wore my battered old Converse^ to continue the sporty vibe but kept things cute with a bow hairband from Accessorize.

Bloody amazing! I was skipping down the road. Not only was this outfit hella comfy but it was also super practical. I wore it to a Lush event so I didn't have to worry about getting glitter all over it since the jersey fabrics are so easy to wash. Wearing this, I felt cute but also very "me". The top makes a statement and I loved that. Huge confidence boost. Thanks, Sooty!

I think I looked awesome! From an objective viewpoint, I can see that the oversized sleeves made my arms look narrower and wearing the top tucked into my skirt pulled in my waistline. The skirt was super short but my leggings stopped it being indecent!

The staff at Lush loved it! I had so many fantastic comments about how much they loved it and how cute Sooty was. It really did make me feel on top of the world!

I'm not even sure if this will reach my wardrobe as I want to wear it every damn day. I felt so confident in it but also as if I was making a real statement. Not only can fat girls wear sports luxe, but they can also wear novelty prints and nightwear as daywear. Everyone should try it!
