Charity of the Month // The Prince's Trust

One of the issues very close to my heart is tackling inequality for children and young people. It's something I studied very closely during my teacher training and the reason why I was placed in a "deprived borough" for my final placement. I'm firmly of the belief that circumstances should not define anyone's future, and that is why I support The Prince's Trust.

WHAT IS THE PRINCE'S TRUST?

The Prince's Trust, now in its 40th year, was founded by the Prince of Wales in order to improve the lives of disadvantaged people in the UK. Helping young people between the ages of 9 and 30, The Prince's Trust funds businesses, provides work experience and gives access to education and personal development to those who most need support. Whether a young person has suffered abuse or mental health problems, has struggled at school, been in trouble with the law or experienced homelessness, the trust is committed to changing lives.

WHY SUPPORT THE PRINCE'S TRUST?

Aside from the very good reasons listed above, The Prince's Trust has launched a new campaign called Parallel Lives. A powerful video, which you can watch below, shows how with support and opportunities in life, one life can go in a completely different direction. Without this, young people are vulnerable to making decisions in a position that nobody should experience. It perfectly illustrates how The Prince's Trust are working tirelessly to improve lives for those who most need their help.

HOW CAN WE HELP?

The Prince's Trust makes it easy to offer your support. As well as being able to raise money during established events such as the London Marathon or Great North Run, they also host their own challenges, such as the Palace to Palace cycling route, the Three Peaks Challenge or even the Great Wall of China trek. There are also a huge amount of volunteering opportunities, whether that's becoming a mentor or helping out with group activities.

Of course, you can also donate. £12 is enough to support four young people calling the Prince's Trust helpline whereas £30 provides two hours of one-to-one mentoring.

There are so many young people in the UK who just need a little help and support in order to receive the best opportunities in life. Together we can change lives.

By way of disclaimer, I was contacted with the view of writing a post about The Prince's Trust. As I'm a supporter of the trust and have this Charity of the Month feature, I offered to support them in this way. I've received no compensation for this post.
