Nails // OPI Cosmo with a Twist

What with the chillier days creeping in, I thought I'd really step out of my comfort zone and go for darker nails. Last time, I had a burgundy which I loved, especially as it's so fitting for this time of year, but I didn't want to have two reds in a row. Instead, I considered going for a deep purple. When I looked at the rows of polish, however, I was intrigued by this- OPI Cosmo with a Twist.

In the bottle, Cosmo with a Twist looked like a sparkling night's sky- a dark, inky blue flecked with iridescent sparkles. I was worried that maybe it would apply quite thinly, in the way glitter polishes often do, but I didn't have to worry about that here. It's a thick, opaque colour which comes out way darker than I expected, much nearer black than navy, although it does have a purple hue under certain lights.

Something that's disappointed me with this shade is how dull it is on the nail. I'd expected a shimmering, sparkling showpiece but instead it's almost matte. Yes, it glimmers under direct light but, for the most part, it's largely unremarkable.

It's a shame as I really wanted something super autumnal but I guess I'll just have to wait until next October. My next nail appointment is 10 days before Halloween and I have something beautiful planned...

  1. I love that deep, dark blue, it looks great on you, and I think I'd feel the same as you on the shimmer. I like my nail polishes to be shiny and shimmery all the time, and I have a couple that are similar to this shade which appear matte when not under the light, but it is still a very, very pretty shade - perfect for this time of year! I can't wait to see what you've got planned for Halloween too! :D Nails are looking lovely. - Tasha

  2. Try painting your own topcoat over it, Ive often found OPI varnish looks magical in the bottle but flat on my nails, topcoat often (not always) seem to lift/brighten the colour and draw out the magical element that first caught my eye.

  3. I love navy nails! Shame it's not that sparkly though. Looking forward to your Halloween nails! x

  4. It does look rather dull which is a little strange considering it's a shimmer. With a glossy gel top coat this should be all kinds of glittery. I'm looking forward to seeing your Halloween nails! x
