Review // Lush Halloween 2016

Hooray! The best time of the Lush year is here! As always, I've bought the majority of the Lush Halloween collection to review. Although there are the usual classics, there are also some brand new products that I couldn't wait to get my hands on!  Lush Halloween 2016 Collection Products
LORD OF MISRULE BATH BOMB
Lush Lord of Misrule Bath Bomb Review
Let's start with the returning favourites. Lord of Misrule is always super popular and for good reason. Although it looks fairly basic with its simple green design, it's the perfect product for sensual, autumnal relaxation. The inside is deep red and causes the bath water to turn the colour of wine. I feel like a voluptuous Roman goddess bathing in a tub of red wine. All I need are some cherubs to feed me grapes and I'm all set. One of my favourite things about Lord of Misrule is that the red interior makes it look like a diseased organ as it fizzes away (perfectly gory for Halloween!) but the one I tried seemed to fizz up a lot more than usual so I couldn't see past the foam billowing out of the centre. Still, the popping candy is always great fun and the delicious spicy scent of black pepper and patchouli is just what you need to warm you up on a cold autumn evening.

LORD OF MISRULE SHOWER CREAM
Lush Lord of Misrule Shower Gel Cream Review
It won't come as a surprise that Lord of Misrule shower cream has exactly the same fragrance as the bath bomb. I ended up with a teeny tiny bottle inside a gift set thinking it was the bath bomb so now I have two! Since this is a shower cream, it's thicker and more moisturising than the usual gels but it does have a tendency to temporarily turn your skin green. It washes off, of course, but I'm always concerned that one day it won't rinse off and I'll have to go out looking like the love child of The Hulk and Frankenstein's Monster. Still, it lathers beautifully and smells delicious so what more could you want?

SPARKLY PUMPKIN BUBBLE BAR
Lush Sparkly Pumpkin Bubble Bar Review
Yes, this bubble bar is super sparkly. You can tell that without even knowing the name. However, it doesn't leave you bathing in glitter as it's fairly subtle once it's in the bath and washes out easily. After using Sparkly Pumpkin this year, I didn't even have the faintest shimmer on my skin, which is a shame for me as I like the effect that glitter bath products usually have. Contrary to what you might expect, this bubble bar doesn't actually smell like pumpkins (great for me as the smell of pumpkin innards makes me retch- just me?) Instead, it's a citrus with lime and grapefruit, and it turns the bath water a deep orange-yellow shade with plenty of fruity scented bubbles.

PUMPKIN BATH BOMB
Lush Pumpkin Bath Bomb Review
Keeping with the pumpkin theme and moving swiftly onto the new products for 2016, Pumpkin is a simple but cute orange bath bomb with a Jack o' Lantern face relief. Now, I think Pumpkin is supposed to smell like pumpkin pie but it doesn't really. It's fragranced with vanilla and cinnamon-like pimento berry oil. Despite this, it smelled like a citrus to me so I'm not sure where the warm, spicy scent comes in. In fact, as it rapidly fizzed away into an orange plume, I thought it looked and smelled like Berocca. After bathing in Pumpkin, I noticed the scent didn't only linger on my skin but was also still apparent in the bathroom the next day too.

AUTUMN LEAF BATH BOMB
Lush Autumn Leaf Bath Bomb Review
Have you noticed Instagram going crazy for this bath bomb? It is pretty gorgeous, to be fair! Unfortunately, I wasn't overwhelmed by it. It's an incredibly slow fizzer and releases the most beautiful colours in a spiral pattern as it dissolves, which is great. The fragrance is also nice with earthy notes of neroli and sandalwood but that's just the problem- it's very nice but completely forgettable. The bathwater turns a pale rust colour, it leaves no scent on the skin and by the next day, I'd completely forgotten all about it. But then it is perfect for Instagram so...

MONSTERS' BALL BATH BOMB
Lush Monsters Ball Bath Bomb Review
I first tried to buy the Halloween collection in store but a bunch of products had sold out, including Monsters' Ball. He was still available in the Little Monster gift set though, so I bought one (this is also how I ended up with the tiny Lord of Misrule shower gel). Unfortunately, when I opened up the box, my monster had his face all smashed in! Not a huge loss, admittedly, as it gave me an excuse to go back and buy another one! When Monsters' Ball is dropped in the bath, he shoots out streams of pink and blue foam which eventually turns the bath water a deep blue. A word of warning: Let the bath bomb completely dissolve before you get in as the pink foam stained my skin and the next day it looked like I had a rash all up my arm. It also stained my bath so watch out for that. Despite this little downside, the fragrance is a really fresh mix of lime and neroli, and I think the eye is cocoa butter for a little moisturising goodness. After my bath, I could still smell the fruity floral fragrance on my skin for a long time. I loved it!

BOO BATH MELT
Lush Boo Bath Melt Review
I was so excited to try the Boo Bath Melt because he is so freaking adorable! On Instagram, I'd seen people cutting him in half and running him through a tea strainer to produce some bubbles. To my delight, this worked- and created cloudy bath water- but I wasn't a huge fan of the fragrance. It's apparently mimosa and ginger but it literally smells like Dove soap. I didn't find it particularly moisturising either but that might be because I only used half. I could just drop some soap in the bath and have exactly the same experience. Still, he's super cute so there's that!

After getting a preview at the Lush Basingstoke event, it was great to finally get a chance to try out the new offerings. The only product I didn't pick up was Goth Fairy shimmer bar because I'd never use it so it would be a massive waste. Every year, Lush is releasing an even larger Halloween collection so I cannot wait to see what next year is like! In the meantime, however, it's time to get my hands on the Christmas goodies!

  3. I picked up most all of these recently, too. I avoided the sparkly pumpkin because I'm not a huge fan of sparkles and glitter. It was my first time using all of these, and Lord of Misrule is definitely my favourite. I love the deep red it colours the bath water! x www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk x
