A-Z of Becky: J

J is for jetting off

I hate flying. Which is odd because from the age of 6-13, I flew once a year and absolutely loved it. My grandparents took us on several cruises from Palma and we often flew from London to visit my dad in Liverpool. Then I had a 3 year break from flying and, much to my surprise, spent the entire trip to Ibiza clinging to the seat in terror, convinced that the plane would fall out of the air and we all would die.

Due to university and lack of money, I didn't go on my first trip abroad sans-family until last year, aged 23. Then I went crazy and went on three holidays in the space of 4 months: Madrid, Florida and Amsterdam. The photo above was taken as we landed in Madrid.

I'm still terrified of flying but Florida is my favourite place on earth. I'm getting married there next year. I also have a huge list of places that I want to go to in the next couple of years: Germany, New York, Stockholm, California...

I think I'm going to need to stock up on Bach's Rescue Remedy.

  1. Ah, I love to fly, but I do get a bit nerve-wracked on taking off and landing, especially when there's turbulance. I always take the time to think that it's actually more dangerous to be in a car than in a plane, which is really crazy when you think about it.

Congrats on your upcoming wedding as well!
    Much love,

  2. I'm like you! I once loved planes so much I wanted to be a pilot. As an adult, I'm terrified. Perhaps we've become too anxious as we learned the realities (or perceived realities) of flying?

And you love Florida! Interesting, haha. :D I'm a big fan of California myself, even before I moved here. Adventures are great; I can't wait until we can just teleport and skip the flying altogether. ;)

  7. This is such a good idea for a blog series, I really love it when bloggers give a little bit more insight into who they really are. Not in a weird way or anything, although I suppose I am a bit nosey like that, ha. But it really gives a blog a bit of personality.

  9. I went to Turkey in 2004 and was stupidly excited about the flight. I jumped a mile though when I thought we'd landed and actually we hadn't then we did and I jumped which my friend thought was hilarious!

  11. I love flying but it seems like such a common fear people have. I'm glad you're not letting it stop you from traveling though! That's crazy you're getting married in Florida- that's somewhere I've never been but have always kind of wanted to go :)

  13. I've ever flown before but I'm pretty afraid of it. I've been parasailing and I want to go skydiving, but something about airplanes just bugs me. I know I'll have to do it one day though :/

I am not a fan of flying much, but some places require flights!
