Review // Primark PS Super Matte Liquid Lipstick
Initially, I was going to post this review as part of my Halloween week but somehow the time passed and I never got round to it. Instead, I'll post it now but I am fully aware that this lipstick looks freakin' horrendous on me!
I needed a deep purple lipstick for a costume idea I had (it was never realised, unfortunately) and, when I was in Winchester with Ami, I had the genius idea of popping into Primark and picking up one of their lipsticks. This deep purple Super Matte Liquid Lipstick was only £2 and perfect for what I had in mind.
PACKAGING
The lipstick is packaged in a basic rectangular plastic tube which is clear so you can see how much product is left. It has a twist lid and the doe-foot applicator is attached to the bottom of the lid. There's an unusual shape to it- it's angled in a way that makes it quite difficult to remove from the tube, and I doubt it will reach the bottom when it starts to empty. Unlike other liquid lipsticks I've used, this applicator doesn't have a divot to collect product. Instead, it's just one flat surface that the lipstick sits on top of.
APPLICATION
Because of the angled applicator, I found it quite difficult to control (as is evident in the wonky line around the edge of my lip!), especially when it came to the cupids bow. I was forced to contort my hand into strange positions so it's definitely one that will take a little getting used to. While applying the lipstick, I was glad to discover that it does look exactly the same colour on the lips as it does in the tube. However, it's a very thin formula so it takes a good few coats to get an opaque finish and, even then it's patchy, thanks to the uneven distribution from the applicator.
RESULTS & LONGEVITY
To be honest, this lipstick did far surpass my expectations of a £2 Primark product! It's certainly very matte and (eventually) opaque. It also dries really quickly, meaning minimal time looking like a blow-up doll (just me?) Unfortunately, this colour does not suit me one little bit. Even though it was Halloween, I still refused to wear it in public. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to trying something different! However, this was probably a good thing as it turns out that this lipstick disappears very quickly and dramatically. It starts from the centre of the lips and just completely flakes off, leaving nothing behind. In a way, this has its positives- there's no staining on the lips, after all- but it's not really what you want after only half an hour.
Although I hated this particular shade on me, I am pretty impressed with the quality. Yes, it's patchy, a pain to apply and disappears within the hour but for £2, it's not bad at all! I'll certainly be trying out a different colour next time I'm near a Primark!

I brought one of these in a purple shade a few weeks and I was quite surprised too. I think they're great if you want to try an outrageous shade or something you've never worn before because you can't go wrong with £2!

I actually really love that colour on you ^_^ x
ReplyDeleteIts disappointing to hear/see that the formula is not the greatest but for £2, it is a bargain.
