Review: Topshop Velvet Lips in Velveteen Ribbon

Bloggers are such enablers! I've heard so much great things about Topshop Velvet Lips and it looked incredible. It's not available online so I had a look instore to buy myself one as a blog birthday present (any excuse!). Unfortunately, they only had the purple shade available, but I used the tester to swatch the deep red variety. It was amazing, so I spent ages trying to track one down online. Eventually, I discovered that Cult Beauty had it as part of a Topshop make up collection that was in the sale. Woohoo!
The packaging is a tube, similar to a lip gloss made of thick plastic. It's clear so you can see how much of the product is left, which is always useful. The applicator is an angled sponge which, although a convenient shape, doesn't pick up much product so I need to layer it on a bit. It also applies unevenly which is frustrating, and takes a while to build up an even finish.

On application, it has a bright, glossy appearance. As it dries, the shade deepens to a rich burgundy and the velvet effect comes in. It really does have a velvety finish- A very smooth, matte effect. It's stunning! Once dry, the colour doesn't bleed or smudge and it lasts for hours. I applied this at 3pm on New Year's Eve and it was still going strong when I got home at 5:30am, even with eating and drinking! If you want to see it in action, I'm wearing it in this video
I know I applied it really wonky here but at least you can see what it looks like on.

It's definitely become one of my favourite lip products. I love the longevity, I love the colour and, most of all, I love that velvet effect. It was well worth the hassle of trying to get hold of it!

  6. I'm not one to normally wear lipstick, because I hate having to worry about it fading or smudging or any number of things that go wrong with lip color products. The fact that yours stayed on so well makes me want to try this desperately! That color is beautiful on you!
