Baking for Valentine's

You know me. I like cake! I like baking too although, I have to admit it, I'm absolutely terrible at it! So when the people at Baking Mad contacted me, I thought this could be my opportunity to hone my skills. I was sent some Silver Spoon baking ingredients to create something wonderful. What with it shortly being Valentine's Day and all, I decided to choose something from their Valentine's Day recipes. Of course, being me, I chose the most difficult recipe there- This hidden heart cake
The recipe was easy enough to understand, and there were Youtube videos to help with some of the elements, such as creaming butter and sugar together.
I might have gone a little crazy decorating the cake. Rich helped me, and we both just threw handfuls of sugar stars, chocolate chips and edible silver balls at it. Well, more is more.

Unfortunately, my food colouring- which was bright pink when it went in the oven- seemed to have disappeared during the cooking process. As for my hearts... Well, they got a bit squashy in the process.
It might not look perfect but it certainly tastes nice. Yummy yum!
Please have a go at the recipe yourself. I'd love to see if yours look more professional than my attempt!

  1. Ooooh I've always fancied making a hidden cake, I wanted to make one with a hidden pattern for my mum's birthday but wimped out. Maybe I'll manage soon! Love your decorating style, more is more indeed (more delicious I think).

  5. I didn't see this in time for Valentine's Day but I'll be printing and storing this one away for a future special occasion! I once made one of those rainbow cakes but the food colouring in two of them seemed to disappear during the cooking process! :(
