Review // Lush Oatifix Face Mask

Right now, I'm obsessed with oats for beauty. I don't know what it is but oaty goodness is just making me happy. When I realised with unparalleled delight that I had 5 empty Lush pots and could therefore pick up my free face mask, I knew immediately that I was going to plump for Oatifix.
Let's start with the most important thing for Lushies: The scent. Oatifix has a deliciously warming, comforting fragrance of oats, almonds and bananas. You know when you're a kid and you put sliced banana on top of your Ready Brek because the adverts for posh porridge do that and therefore it means you're a fancy, sophisticated grown up? Oh, just me then. Well it smells like that, with all the nostalgic safety that those thoughts encompass.

Application was really difficult. The mask is of a very thick consistency but not particularly creamy, so it tended to just scrub around my face without actually sticking to my skin. To get it to stay put, I had to use much more than I would normally apply, meaning this tub only has two applications, maybe three at a push. However, it is very soothing and feels lovely once on the skin plus, of course, there's that good-enough-to-eat fragrance lingering around my nostrils.
After 13 minutes, I rinsed off with warm water which is always the worst part! However, I found that this mask came off really easily without just smearing around my face. Once I'd washed and dried my face, I was surprised to find that it was actually really dry, although it did look brighter. I'd, quite reasonably, expected the oats and illipe butter to have moisturised my face, but no. Even more strangely, however, two hours later my face was buttery soft. I have absolutely no idea why or how that happened!

Would I buy Oatifx again? Maybe although it wouldn't be my first choice. For now, I'll be sticking with my old faithfuls Catastrophe Cosmetic and Love Lettuce

  1. Oatifix is the only Lush facemask I would ever repurchase - find applying to damp skin with damp fingers (and a spray bottle at the ready to keep it moist) means I can use less. Makes my skin so soft! x

  3. I have this one after also deciding to try it when exchanging 5 pots. I was at a Lush event and it had just been used on me as part of a facial and I loved that it smelled like flapjacks so I wanted to try it at home. Unfortunately though I don't really get on with it. As you said it's almost impossible to get it to stick to your face and then when it comes to washing it off I find it's then welded to my face so I have to scrub it off with a cloth. The smell is amazing, but it's just too much hard work! x

  4. I tried a few fresh face masks and love lettuce is by far my favorite. I have never actually tried OatFix though, maybe I will give it a shot one day!

  5. I love the idea of this and I do love masks! But I'm afraid that this is an easy mask to make at home. You can get a huge bag of rolled oats at the store for $3.99 and they have the same effect. I make it all the time and it works great! :)
