Review // Soap & Glory Kick Ass Concealer

I'm yet to find my holy grail concealer. After years of searching, I've turned to Soap & Glory's Kick Ass Concealer as I've heard such great things about it. Is it The One? Unfortunately, no!

PACKAGING

This packaging is fantastic! Not only is it super cute (always a bonus), but it seems pretty robust and it's perfectly designed to take up as little room as possible. Comprised of two layers, the bottom section holds two concealers, one for blemishes and one for under eyes, as well as a handy mirror. Hidden above the mirror is a setting powder complete with applicator.

CONSISTENCY & APPLICATION

Both concealers are really creamy and respond well to body heat, softening on contact into a smooth cream with no patchiness or dryness. Beware that this means you only need to use a small amount! The undereye concealer is pink toned and includes Puffease-8 technology, whatever the hell that is, while the concealer for blemishes is more yellow toned. Too yellow-toned for me, as it turns out. I have very pale, pink-toned skin and this concealer just makes me look sallow. Unfortunately there are only two shades available- light and medium- which limits the option for colour-matching, unfortunately. The undereye concealer is more effective, masking dark circles well by illuminating the area.

After applying both concealers, I use the transparent setting powder, which use InstaFix polymer technology (again, whatever the hell that is- Enough with the pseudoscience, Soap & Glory! to hold the concealer in place. The sponge included is handy but I found it difficult to pick up a decent amount of product and it just highlights how much product transfers so I prefer to use my own brush.

LONGEVITY

As I mentioned above, the concealer does transfer quite badly but, when left alone, lasts a few hours before gradually fading, I've been able to wear this concealer in hot conditions without it melting off, so it seems the setting powder is somewhat effective!

Will I buy this concealer again? I doubt it. Ultimately, the shade is just too off for me. Perhaps if Soap & Glory released a wider range of tones, I'd be tempted to have another go but, for the time being, I'll keep exploring other options.

To give it a go for yourself, buy Kick Ass Concealer here. Let me know what you think of it!

  2. Aw, what a shame you didn't get on with it. Have you tried Seventeen's Phwoarr Paint? I like that one, and I think it comes in some super light colours!

  3. I toyed with buying this recently but the poor choice of shades put me off as I'm very pale. Looks like I made the right decision :)

  4. Such a shame that they don't have a wider range of shades! I'm quite yellow toned so I might try it out myself (totally just because I like the packaging!) hopefully they'll release more shades in the future! x

  6. Shame about the shade - I've been using this product for a while now and find it works pretty well for me but I tend to get lucky with concealer shades. I have the same problem with the setting powder sponge as well - it hardly picks up any of the powder! Good shout to use your own sponge, will have to give that a go :) x

  7. I love this concealer, but I think I get on better with it as my skin is more yellow in tone, so the blemish concealer matches my skin perfectly! It's a shame it didn't work for you though

  9. It sucks that there isn't a large selection of concealer colors. Of course, not everyone is going to be able to use light and medium. I do agree, the packaging looks really cute.

  11. This looks so cute - I've always wanted to try Soap 'n' Glory makeup! I've always sworn by my MAC Pro-Longwear concealer, it's amazing and you never have to reapply. It's a little bit more money (£17) but you only need a tiny amount at the time and it goes a long way. I wear mine every day and it lasts ages xx
