My favourite Christmas decorations

I'm having a right 'mare with my tree this year. I've been working on it for a week and just can't get it looking "right". Since I'm still battling it, I thought I'd bridge the gap before a full-on Christmas tree reveal post (Is that a thing? I'm making it a thing) with a peek at my favourite Christmas decorations.
Harrods Christmas Tree Decoration

This little red glittery number is from the Harrods Christmas Shop, which makes me feel really posh. "This old thing? It's only from Harrods". Originally I wanted to get one with the date on but couldn't find one I liked that would fit with my strict red and gold theme so I went for this one instead. It's got a bunch of little bells inside so it's essentially a massive jingle bell.

German Christmas Decoration
Germany is pretty much The Land of Christmas, right? When I went to Berlin, I just knew I had to buy a Christmas decoration to take home with us. We hunted down Käthe Wohlfahrt, a huge Christmas shop in the city centre, and after a long, long time deliberating, settled on this little bear in Lederhosen with a beer stein. Because Germany. He's called Bearlin.

It's becoming somewhat of an annual tradition to buy a Christmas decoration from another country. When we visited Florida in 2014, we went a little bit overboard!

Grinch Christmas Decoration
Now, I really do love this Dr Seuss decoration but I always have to hide it around the back of the tree because a) I renounce the Grinch like my grandparents renounce Satan and b) It's not red and/ or gold. So why did I buy it? Because it has my name on. Growing up as Becky-not-Rebecca, I could never find anything with my name on and had to resign myself to a life of people buying personalised gifts handed over with a hopeful "They didn't have Becky but Rebecca's the same, right?". In fact, I actually have a decoration on my tree that says They Didn't Have Your Name. In Florida, everything had my name on. So I bought everything with my name on. Except for the one thing I really wanted, which was one of those tacky name number plate things. Sure, have Brady and Benita. Because we all know a ton of them, right?

Disney Christmas Decoration WDW Christmas Decoration
Both the vintage-style Mickey and Minnie decoration and the photo frame one are from Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe in Magic Kingdom which is probably my favourite shop in Walt Disney World. Admittedly the photo frame is a bit tacky but I couldn't resist it! With the date in the corner and room for the cheesy holiday photo we took in Downtown Disney, it's a lovely memento of our trip.

German pickle Christmas decoration
In the German area at Epcot, we spent a long time poring over the Christmas section. There was a special wedding box of Christmas ornaments, which is apparently a German wedding tradition. They were pretty expensive though so, with a heavy heart, we decided not to buy them and I've regretted it ever since. Maybe I'll buy some when we return in 2017, even though we'll have been married 3 years by that point! Although we didn't get the beautiful boxed set, we did console ourselves by buying this pickle because, according to Epcot, this is a German tradition, which isn't strictly true. I haven't hung up the pickle yet because it's traditionally the last ornament to go on our tree and, as I said, I'm far from being done with this God forsaken tree. Anyway, long story short. We went to Epcot and bought a Christmas pickle.

Squirrel tree decoration
Remember recently I mentioned the squirrel decoration that Rich bought me? Here he is!

Starbucks Christmas Decoration
Moving away from the tree and swiftly descending into the fiery depths of consumerism, here are my Starbucks decorations. Being ceramic, they're way too heavy for the tree so I have to pop them on the shelf instead. The one in front in last year's and behind it is the 2015 release. I even write my name on the back in Sharpie because I'm a total loser like that. And if you're judging me now (which I know you are), wait until you hear my next anecdote: I actually bought two Starbucks decorations this year. There was a really awkward moment when I had to explain to the girl in Starbucks that yes, they do sell Christmas tree decorations because they are right up there on the shelf with price tags attached, and by the time she'd pulled over a chair, stood on it to get the decoration down and hand it to me, I didn't have the heart to tell her I wanted the red cup one, not the stripy mug one. So I bought the mug one and went back a few days later to get the red cup one. Which actually turned out to be more awkward because only one till was working and the barcode wouldn't scan so there was a very long line of grumpy commuters behind me. Any normal person would say "You know what? Don't worry about it. I'll get one another day" but I'm not normal. I was going to get that red cup decoration and you better believe I stood there the whole 10 minutes until it was sorted out.

Deer faux taxidermy
I've already regaled you with tales about how I visit Winchester Christmas Market every year and buy pomanders so I won't waste your time or mine by saying it again. Just know that I do. Last year, I bought this faux taxidermy deer bust and loved him- Rudolph- so much that he's stayed up all year. To kit him out for Christmas, I've popped this pomander wreath around his head. I have another wreath to add to him too and I still need to rig him up with fairy lights.

And because I know you all want to see it, here's the decoration that laughs at my childhood heartache.

  3. This may be my favorite post of yours! I loved seeing each special ornament, and reading about where you got it.
Is the wreath made of dried oranges and cinnamon sticks? Whatever it is, I don't think it's a thing here!

  7. Oh I have the last one - except it does say my name... sorry!
Your decorations are all so interesting, and I love that so many have a story behind them. I can't wait to move into my own home and begin my own Christmas traditions and decorations style!

  8. So many lovely decorations! I need the "They didn't have one with your name on it" because growing up as an Aimee I could never find anything with my name on it, and often got presented with "Amy" instead! Which is so not the same.... | www.aimeeraindropwrites.co.uk |
