OOTD // Vivien of Holloway Tartan Skirt & Gypsy Top
One of the many blogs I abandoned over the years was called Becky's Vintage Wardrobe and, as you may imagine, was dedicated to my love of vintage clothing. My absolute favourite brand for reproduction vintage clothing was Vivien of Holloway and I had a whole wardrobe filled with their dresses. I loved that they were true to 1940s and 1950s style but available in a wide range of sizes and hard-wearing.
Vivien of Holloway have very kindly sent me some pieces of their collection to try out and they are every bit as lovely as I remember. Circle skirts are my particular favourite as they look great with or without a petticoat. As you can see, I chose to wear my red tartan skirt without a petticoat this time (mostly because I took it to CenterParcs and wouldn't fit a puffy petticoat into my bag!) but I do have one- from Vivien of Holloway, in fact- and I know it will look beautifully retro and feminine. Something else I love about the circle skirts is that you don't need to worry about your hips. The amount of fabric used is expansive so, as long as the waistband fits, the skirt will sit nicely over your hips and thighs.
As I'm pretty busty, I was a bit worried about choosing a top to go with my skirt. The staff at Vivien of Holloway were wonderfully helpful in giving advice and eventually I settled on this gorgeous gypsy top because a) I loved the shape, and b) the red, gold and green trim made me think of Christmas. To my relief, it fits absolutely perfectly. As it's fitted around the waist and neck, but loose around the bust, it doesn't feel at all restrictive or tight. Another thing I love about this top is how versatile it is- it can be worn either on or off the shoulders for a casual or more glamorous look. The peplum is super flattering too as it hides my tummy!
Although I chose these two items with Christmas in mind, I know they'll be staples throughout the year as they're both so easy to style. I've already got ideas in mind for how I can use them in further outfits- how cute would the gypsy top look with some fitted black capris?
I'm so glad that Vivien of Holloway are every bit as fantastic as I remember. Definitely one to keep in mind for the future!
Here- have some photos of me in my old Vivien of Holloway dresses! The first two are over 7 years old!

This skirt looks so good on you! I wish I could pull of skirts this length but they always seem to end up making me look really short.

So gorgeous, those pieces go perfectly together! I must check out Vivien of Holloway as I love vintage clothing <3
ReplyDeleteI think this is my favourite outfit that you've ever worn! It's so festive together, but great basics for all year round! X
ReplyDeleteOoh I love all of those outfits! The tartan looks great; Christmassy but not too Christmassy to wear year-round as well.
