Review: Lush Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub

This is one of the items inside the Winter Wonderland gift set that I bought along with a whole load of other Lush goodies in the Boxing Day sale. I absolutely love Rub Rub Rub, as you can probably tell here, and this seemed similar, so I was really looking forward to using it. Turns out, it's another wonderful salty, rubby product (yes, that totally makes sense).

I was surprised by the consistency as, although it looks particularly salty on top, it's more of a thick cream beneath the surface. Despite having lime and grapefruit as key ingredients, the scent I picked up on the most was avocado, which is used to nourish the skin. Beware that this product also contains vodka! I wouldn't recommend eating it though... You can also buy an alcohol-free, slightly cheaper, variety though, which is fantastic. You've got to hand it to Lush- they're amazing at catering to their customers*!

After using it on my body in the shower, and finding it left my skin perfectly moisturised and exfoliated, I thought I would try it on my face too. This proved a bit more problematic as I found it difficult to wash off properly and was left with salt around my hairline. I also managed to get some in my mouth and, believe me, it doesn't taste that good.

Although it did leave my face smooth, and I'll no doubt use it as a facial product again, I definitely preferred using it on my body since it's so much easier to wash off! Now I think I need to try all of Lush's salt-based products!

*In fact, I just found out there are FOUR varieties of the same product: Ocean Salt, Ocean Salt Alcohol Free, Ocean Salt Self Preserving AND Ocean Salt Self Preserving Alcohol Free. Lush, you astound me!

  3. I love lush but actually never tried that one, I tend to go for more gentle exfoliants because I feel like the salt might be too abrasive.

  4. I love the sound of the avocado butter in this because I always find using scrubs dry out my face- but I need them to get rid of the dry bits! I'll probably just use it in the shower where I can shove my face under the running water to avoid salty hair haha :)

  8. I used to use this a few years ago and you're right, it really doesn't taste nice! It can be a little rough but if you go gently it's nice to use on the face. I don't think when I used it they promoted it as for the body as well (I may be wrong but I don't remember seeing it on the pot) so I'd be interested to try it like that as well x
