Virtual Travels
Let's get this out of the way: I have no life. Right, now I can tell you about something I really love doing, and hopefully you won't judge me. I really enjoy pulling up Google Maps, wiggling the cursor around the page and then looking on Street View at wherever it lands. Sometimes, you'll end up somewhere really pretty and interesting. When I find these beautiful places, I screenshot them and save them. It's a bit weird, I know, but it really makes me aware of how vast the world is and how different other countries are.

Læsø, Denmark
Vilnius, Lithuania

Mt Hood, Oregon, USA

Have you ever found anywhere really pretty or interesting on Street View? Surely I can't be the only person who does this?
Oh I do this on the time, I travel across American cities weekly via google!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad it's not just me!
DeleteI have never thought of this, but what a cool idea!! I will often look places up on Street View when I've heard of them on the news or something- I discovered that Braemar is BEAUTIFUL! I will definitely be doing this when I'm bored at work tomorrow...!! xx
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'll have to look that one up!
DeleteJesus Christ, you need to get a life, Becky!

I think my favourite is the Brazilian one.
DeleteThis is such a cool thing to do! Who would have thought such petty places could come out of randomly picking a spot on a map? xx
ReplyDeleteI know! It's crazy! We live in such a beautiful world!
DeleteOmg glad I'm not the only one who does this, and hey, I live near Llandudno, I'll take you on a little tour if your ever in the area :)
ReplyDeleteI spend waaay too much time on MapCrunch finding new places, if you haven't tried it out, give it a go - i think you'd like it :) x
I'll remember that!
DeleteMan Google Maps is so amazing. I can't get over how cool it is that you can basically click anywhere on the map and see what's there. This sounds like an awesome free time activity to me! I may have to try it sometime!
ReplyDeleteI know! Although a lot of Asia isn't on there so there's still a lot of places to explore.
DeleteI'm all for the internet, but I'd much rather actually experience these instead of look at them on google maps......
ReplyDeleteOh me too! Unfortunately I don't have the money to go cavorting around the world on a whim!
DeleteWow, this is great, I never realised Google maps had such lovely photos! May have to try this now!
ReplyDeleteDo it! It will surprise you!
Deletei once found my father in law taking his dog for a walk. it's gone now, but it was definitely him.. what a funny old hobby, but you know what, a pretty awesome one. i might have to join you on your virtual travels from now on! x
ReplyDeleteThat's so cool!
DeleteI do this too, I love finding tiny towns in the US and 'walking' around.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'm glad it's not just me!
DeleteI'm so glad someone else does this too! Of course I pretend to live in all of these places and construct a lifestyle for each of them...
ReplyDeleteHaha I love doing that!
