Review: Lush Fairly Traded Honey Shampoo and American Cream Conditioner

I'm a big advocate for minimal washing when it comes to hair. My hair is so dry that the longer I can go without washes, the better. All the natural oils help tame the frizz and keep it in good condition. Since I wash my hair fairly infrequently (about once a fortnight- I know that sounds disgusting but I promise it's not smelly or yukky!), I don't get through a whole lot of shampoo and conditioner and it has been John Frieda Frizz Ease for about 10 years now. When Cohorted sent me these Lush goodies, I was excited to break away from my Frizz Ease box and try something new for a change.
Fairly Traded Honey Shampoo
Although the key ingredient here is, unsurprisingly enough, honey, there is also a strong note of rose. There are further floral oils with bergamot, geranium and neroli, and also beeswax. On application, the shampoo lathers really well and a little amount was enough to cover my whole head of very long hair. Afterwards, my hair was squeaky clean in every sense of the word: It literally squeaked when I ran my hands through it.

American Cream Conditioner
This conditioner smells incredible. With strawberry, vanilla and lavender oil, it has a real warm, smoothie-fresh fragrance. The consistency is thick and creamy, but I did have to use a lot of product in order to cover my hair. I know it's long, so this probably isn't a problem for most people, but it also didn't apply particularly evenly. Afterwards, my hair didn't feel especially smooth or nourished. It's a real shame as the scent is so lovely, but I don't think I'll be buying it myself.

  1. I love Lush, so I'm always looking for reviews of their products. It's a shame about the conditioner though! My hair isn't as long as yours but I have issues with even application as well. I'll check out the shampoo some time if I ever get the cash.

    1. I'm fussy about shampoo and conditioner too so it's a real shame.

  2. I can't believe it when people wash their hair everyday and then damage it with hairdryers and straighteners, it's so misguided to be told that hair is dirty after 2 days. If I had dry hair I would wash it less too, as it is, my oily hair will last 3 days before I have to wash it and with the rinse I make for it, will last 4 days

    1. I'm very lucky because, although I have to straighten my hair, it stays straight until I wash it so I don't need to use the straighteners too often.

  3. Eh, I find Lush's products to be a bit overrated. I also have dry hair, and I thought the shampoo bars (especially the coconut one) would be rather more awesome than they actually were - left my hair very squeaky indeed! :( Conditioner only (CO) washing and that new Herbal Essences 0% shampoo have been great for my fine, dry hair, maybe you could look into them?

  4. I've never tried Lush shampoos, but I've tried similar body shop ones and they didn't agree with me! Impressed that you can go 2 weeks without washing! I try to do it as little as possible - once a week if I haven't much going on but 2 usually xD

    1. It's a relief to hear from other people who don't wash their hair every other day!

  5. Oh to be able to wash my hair only once a fortnight! I'm lucky if I can get two days out of mine and occasionally it gets to the point where it won't last a day. I also hate dry shampoo, which is far from ideal!

    1. Oh no! Rich has this problem too (living with a long-haired man leads to more hair-related discussions than you'd expect!)
