Thomas Sabo: West Quay, Southampton

Or, The Tale of the Pretzel Charm

Last week, I was very kindly invited to the opening of Thomas Sabo's newest store in Southampton's West Quay. I've been a fan of Thomas Sabo jewellery for a few years now, especially their huge array of traditional charms. Ever since my mum bought me a charm bracelet as a graduation gift, I've been adding charms to celebrate momentous events, with the aim to create a story of my life to pass down to future generations. With that in mind, my aim of the evening was to find a charm to commemorate our time in Florida getting married.

I'd already looked online and saw that Thomas Sabo sold a pretzel charm. Bear with me here. On our first day in Florida, Rich bought me a pretzel from The Lunching Pad in Magic Kingdom's Tomorrowland (which sells the best pretzels and ice slushies FYI). After that pretzel, I spent the entire holiday alternating between eating pretzels and moaning about how much I wanted a pretzel. So when I saw the pretzel charm online, I knew that was the one for me.

When Helen and I arrived at the store, we headed straight to the charm counter at the back. The assistant asked if I was looking for anything particular, so I told her the whole charm-bracelet-story-of-my-life yarn and explained I'd just got married. "So you're looking for something wedding-related?", she asked.

"Well, actually... Do you have the pretzel?"

I may have confused her, but she didn't seem fazed and pointed out their pretzel charm. Unfortunately, it was a bronze colour and, being picky, I really wanted an entirely silver collection of charms. The assistant was very helpful and looked it up on the system for me, discovering that there was only one available in Cardiff.

While I deliberated over whether to buy the plane charm instead, Helen and I checked out the rest of the store. The jewellery is, of course, absolutely stunning and we had the opportunity to try on some rings for the photobooth. Rather than test out the waters with a subtle look, I decided to go whole hog crazy old lady and put multiple rings on each finger.
As well as the photo booth, we were treated to delicious snacks as well as cocktails and an in-store DJ. Thank you Thomas Sabo for inviting us along to your beautiful new store!

  2. Your charm bracelet idea is lovely. I try and theme my charms too with things relating to me - I'm working on a fairytale bracelet at the moment :)

    1. It's only got something like 5 charms on it at the moment. I still have a backlog of charms that I need to buy, including one for getting my first teaching job in 2011!

  4. I love Thomas Sabo charms... I actually only blogged about my own charm bracelet story a while back myself. My oldest friend in all of the world bought me the bracelet and the majority of my charms for some of the big events in my adult life. I think they're so much nicer and more traditional looking than the Pandora ones. I'd love to see your bracelet/charms!

    1. I prefer traditional ones over Pandora ones too. You can fit more of them on one bracelet as well.
