Smoky Eyes

If you go back and look at photos of me, you'll see that I never ever ever wear eyeshadow. I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to create an eyeshadow look when, as luck would have it, Yves Rocher contacted me to ask if I would like to try out their eye products. Perfect timing!
Since I had no idea where to start, I did what any self-respecting blogger would do and headed to YouTube for some guidance.
I started with the Fixing Eyelid Primer which is really smooth and dries to a velvety finish. The camellia oil also makes it smell amazing!

Next, I cracked open the Sumptuous Colour Quad, which has a stunning rose gold lid and handy mirror on the inside. Using the pale shade as a highlight first, I then used Real Techniques brushes to blend in a silver shade in the centre, moving to the darker grey at the outside of my lid. Finally, I use the black shadow to define and line my lids. Although I found the shadows easy to apply, they were harder to blend and ended up going a little patchy. Nevertheless, with some reapplication and extra blending, I managed to even it out.
A little touch of Intense Kajal to line my eyes added some extra definition and it was really easy to smudge and blend into my eyeshadow. The pointed shape of the kohl makes application super simple.
Finally, I finished off the look with a couple of coats of Volume Vertige mascara. Not only has the brush got a shape that's perfect for catching every lash, but the head also bends and flexes to get even those tricky lashes in the corner.
Here is my final look! What do you think? Admittedly, I have a long way to go but this is the first time I have ever, in all my 26 nearly 27 years of living, attempted a smoky eye. Not too shabbby, right?
Although it took a little getting used to, I think I'm a fan of this look. I'll definitely be trying it out again!

  1. That primer sounds good. Maybe i should give it a shot. I really still have to find a decent eyeshadow primer. The ones i own are rather fine but none is really great. Good job on the eye make up :)

  2. Oh I love this look on you, Becky! The colours really do make your eyes pop. And for a self confessed eye shadow beginner, you did a pretty amazing job at it! I definitely need to learn to apply eye shadow haha, I just dab mine on hurriedly and cross my fingers that it looks semi-okay!

  4. That smoky eye looks really good, even more so being the first one you've ever done. I think that's better than 99% of the smoky eyes I've tried, and I wear eyeshadow daily! I bow to your skills.

  6. I really want to try that eye primer. I'm not usually one who's sucked in by packaging, but that eye shadow palette is bloody gorgeous! Your smokey eye is awesome too, so pretty. I'm the same really with not wearing eyeshadow normally - I don't wear it too much but that's because I have awful hooded eyelids so it looks silly haha.
