Mizz Magazine 1999

When I was rooting through my box of childhood objects and found my folder of spells, I had a peek at the back of the snippets I'd cut out. It's fascinating to see these little glimpses of what a pre-teen girls' magazine was like in the late '90s.
Is it just me or does Dec look a little bit like Claire Balding?
Hello, I'm Becky, I want to be a pop star and I'll pretty much do anything if it means being in your magazine.
Look at that hair! I'm surprised they had anything about texting in these, to be honest!
Speaking of hair, is it wrong that I totally want my hair in those buns?
Who doesn't want to win a midi hi-fi and a Dreamcast console?

Or you could win a funky Nokia 3210. We all had one, right?
If you get 33b, you're awesome! I never even knew any of this person's songs but I remember they were in all the magazines.
Oh those were the days! My dad had a Real Slim Shady ringtone. So cool!

Choose yer look, guys! Is that an Ali G? Oh man, the late '90s is killing me!
A Steps Cindy dressed in all the band's trendy clobber? Laters, I'm off to Toys R Us!
Well, this doesn't sound like a dangerous place at all! Anyway, it doesn't work anymore. Sorry guys!

Now I wish I'd kept all my magazines! I have some bridal magazines from 2000 coming up in a couple of days so keep your eyes peeled for that! The hair and make up is really something!

    2. I used to read Mizz and Shout when I was about 10, then when I got to 12 or so I upgraded to Sugar, J17, Bliss and CosmoGirl. Then when I reached 16 it was Kerrang all the way haha!

  4. LOL oh my god, so many memories here! I'm surprised mizz talked about texting too! Don't remember ever reading anything remotely techy in these mags. Did you have the SMTV mag as well? I miss that show so much!

    1. Girl Talk was the first magazine I started reading. My dad had to read it first to make sure it was suitable for me haha!

  11. It must've been a lot of fun writing this magazine. I found an old Smash Hits and a Bliss recently when I was clearing out a box of my old crap. There were some crazy hairstyles and outfits in there, as well as song lyric pages(!) and some hilarious quizzes.

  15. Hi Becky!
Great post. I wondered if you could help: I'm trying to find a copy of an article published in Mizz Magazine in I believe 1999. It was one of their 'Real Life' stories I believe and it was about a girl suffering from OCD.
I don't suppose you have a copy of that issue do you? X
