Review: Avon SuperShock Gel Eyeliner Pencil in Black

I buy Marie Claire every month, so free gifts have no influence on my purchase, but I was pretty excited to try out the eyeliner that I got with this month's issue. If there's one thing I love (except red lipsticks), it's black eyeliner!

The packaging is simple. It's indistinguishable from other eyeliner pencils but that's not a problem. It's a good size, easy to hold and allows for smooth application. So far, so good.
When I first applied it, I was surprised by the intensity. This is a very dark shade so it's perfect as it only takes a quick sweep to get a bold look. It applies really smoothly and the gel consistency gives a nice matte finish.

The only downside for me is that the "nib" blunts easily and, as it's really difficult to sharpen, this makes it hard to apply accurately. Not ideal for sharp flicks but for general application, it's perfect.

The longevity is amazing. It lasts for so long without fading and maintains the dramatic, dark appearance. However, it's not very waterproof and it does smudge easily when wet. Despite this, it doesn't budge so long as it stays dry.
Overall, I'm very impressed. I'm actually likely to buy this when it runs out. Good job, Avon!
