Book Review: Ooh, What a Lovely Pair!

Ooh, What a Lovely Pair!- Ant and Dec
I know what you're thinking. I have the most intellectual taste in literature! Nothing more high-class than a bit of Ant and Dec! I have to admit that I do have a bit of a soft spot for the pair so I thought this would be an amusing read.

The book is co-written by the pair and they write together throughout it. None of this alternate chapter business. They have a font each (Dec's is bold and Ant's in italic) so they interact with each other through the words. They make joke at each other's expense and annoy each other. This is something that works well on-screen but, when written, it just doesn't work. It seems too considered which contrasts with the flippant remarks, and almost seems as if they were trying too hard to be funny.
Although there were some interesting insights into their lives, I was most put out to read that during their SM:TV live days, they didn't actually watch Pokémon and had no idea what they were talking about during their Pokefights. The Pokefights were my favourite bits (Don't be a Jigglypuff, oh yeah!) and, even though it was about 12 years ago now, I still felt betrayed.
Overall, I found it difficult to really find anything in the book particularly gripping. Either they're really nice, genuine guys or a lot more scandalous stuff has happened that they couldn't write about! Either way, their story doesn't have a lot to offer.

  2. I really enjoyed this book, I was constantly in stitches! I can see why the writing style wouldn't be to everyone's taste though :) x
