Review: One Direction make up

Ok, let's get it over with before it becomes the elephant in the room. Yes, I'm a 25 year old woman and I bought One Direction make up. I don't even like One Direction, but after seeing a billion really positive reviews, curiosity got the better of me.

I'm not a nail polish fan and I wasn't really that keen on their lip balm thingies, so I only bought the lipsticks and blushers. When I say "only", I mean "every single one". Still, at £3 per item, it was hardly a stretch!

Lipsticks

Each lipstick comes in identical packaging with "Kiss You" written on the side. I assume this is a song title or something. It seems a bit of an odd thing to say otherwise. Annoyingly, the packaging doesn't say what shade is in each tube although it does have a clear bottom, so you can see the colour easily. The packaging is made of what appears to be a very cheap plastic. It doesn't seem sturdy or durable at all so probably not one for rough handling. I also found that one of the bullets was stuck inside the tube. It twists up enough for the moment, but it will need to be forced up at some point and I'm hoping it won't snap!

The packaging is labelled below the bullet with the corresponding boy's signature. As a non-One Direction fanatic, I found it really really difficult to decode the signature and work out which boy was labelled with which shade. It's not really an issue though, since you don't exactly need to know the name of each lipstick.

Each lipstick is adorned with the One Direction logo on the top of the bullet and Xs and Os along the side. Very tacky but perfect for the target market. They have an odd synthetic sweet smell and, when applied, taste like pick n mix which isn't entirely unpleasant.

Liam

This lipstick is the first I tried as I was drawn to the super-red appearance in the bullet. I was prepared for this to be a cheap, thick consistency- much like the play make up you had as a child- but was pleasantly surprised to find it glided on with barely any effort at all. It has a smooth sheen to it and it is super duper pigmented. The shade is a really bright red-orange. I am in love with it! When drinking, there was barely any transfer onto the glass. It lasts the longest of the bunch- It still looks great after 5 hours.

Zayn
Much like the other lipsticks, this has a lovely smooth consistency. It's a lot more sheer than the others and therefore took a while to build up to my desired colour. It also applies a little unevenly. Nevertheless, it's a lovely colour. Unfortunately, it only lasted an hour or so due to the sheer finish.

Niall

I love the pinky-nude shade of this lipstick! I've never worn a nude colour before and it's not something I'd ever considered. Why would I want a lipstick the same colour as my lips? What's the point? Well, this has changed my mind. It's so pretty. My lips look glossier, have more definition and just that extra bit of colour to them. It lasts a good few hours but it does that annoying thing where it fades from the inside out, leaving a ring of colour around the lip line.

Harry

This shade is a deep blue-based red. It's super pigmented and, like the others, has a glossy finish. It applies evenly and is really easy to build colour to a really bold look. The colour lasted on me for about 4 hours before fading fairly evenly.

Louis
This one is an interesting shade. It's a lilac-pink which verges a little too far on the lilac side for me. I still like it, don't get me wrong. It's just not my favourite. Similarly to the Zayn shade, it's sheer and applies a little unevenly. I'm afraid I don't have a photo of this on right now, but I will add it as soon as.

Blushers

The cream blushers are packaged in twist-up tubes much like the lipstick. I was disappointed to see how tiny they were when they arrived. The packaging is made of the same cheap plastic as the lipsticks.

I found it really sweet that the boxes they are packaged in give instructions on how to apply the blush. It just goes to show how young the target market is. Strangely, it recommends you "apply three stripes and blend in" (or words to that effect). Let me tell you, do not apply three stripes. These blushes are super pigmented!

However, they do apply nicely, as long as I don't put too much on! It blends well and lasts a good few hours.

Pink Explosion

Yes, I'm doubling up my photos. Deal with it.
I love this shade! I really adore pink blusher anyway and this is the prettiest of pink! Right up my street!

Coral Cutie
I'm a big fan of coral cheeks and this is a really nice shade. It's a very natural coral- it doesn't look too orange like some can- and just adds bit of a healthy glow.

Rose Riot

I wasn't a fan of the rose shade when I saw it in the tube. It looked a dirty pink and wasn't the most appealing. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that when it applied, it was brighter than I had expected, and had none of that dirty tone that I thought there'd be. It's a pretty, dark pink- The older sister of Pink Perfection.

  6. I was pleasantly surprised too! Kudos to One Direction really (more like their promoters!) I think releasing an affordable make-up range is more suitable for their target audience than the stereotypical fragrance line that every celeb is having a bash at nowadays. I can't wait to try their nail effects range!
