Foam Party

I'm almost 26 years old, I was a university student for 5 years and, before yesterday, I had only ever been to one foam party, during which the foam machine broke. I know- I haven't lived! Luckily, my local rock club was holding a foam party last night so Marie and I toddled off for foamy fun times! Of course, I didn't want to get my lovely camera all wet and foamy, so I just used my awful phone camera. I quite like bad photos every now and then. They look a little more raw and spontaneous, I suppose.

Our friend (and my ex, which will be relevant in a moment) works at the club, and we bumped into him on our way in. We walked in together, were served by somebody who has been working there for years... and Marie and I were asked for ID. Of course, I'd totally forgotten to bring mine. Perhaps I assumed that a club I've been frequenting for 9 years, at which the boyfriend I had back in 2005 is employed, wouldn't ID me (Don't do the maths and work out my age when I started going!). Of course, I don't want the only decent club for miles around to get shut down, so I wasn't at all annoyed and I suppose it's a compliment. I just couldn't believe how stupid I was to forget my ID! Funnily enough, when we got back and handed my driving license over, there was a second person on the door who said "Oh, they're definitely over 18" before even looking at our licenses.

It took a little while before any music we recognised was played. We both pretty much stopped listening to new music around 2006, so anything later than that is not the best for us. However, when they did play older tracks, they really went for it. It was like being in a little time warp. There was a proper little emo moment with MCR and Panic! at the Disco, in which everyone sang along. It was a beautiful sight. Emo's not dead, guys!
At around midnight, the foam began to the sounds of Sum 41's In Too Deep. There was a lot of foam. It was amazing. Foam as far as the eye could see! Of course, everyone rushed towards the front centre of the dance floor, where the foam cannon was, so it was really crowded there. As the foam gushed out, everyone became all wet and slippery. It was very strange to be sliding up against complete strangers but there was such a community spirit. As I said earlier, I've been going for 9 years, but I've never known it to be as friendly and united as last night: People were starting foam fights with strangers, singing to each other and just generally acting as one large group of friends. I didn't even see any drunk, obnoxious people, which is always good. As somebody who doesn't drink, it's very annoying to be bashed around my drunk clubbers!

By the time the foam stopped, it was above knee height. There were people lying down and splashing around in it, completely swallowed by the foamy sea. Of course I managed to inhale some of the foam, have it shoot right up my nostrils and pour into my eyes, but the occasional mild discomfort was hugely overruled by the fun of flailing around to old school rock tunes with a cascade of bubbles pouring over me.

We partied until 1:30am which is really good going for us these days. We usually leave around midnight, which is shameful I know but that's what old age does to you! It was such a fun evening. I really hope they hold another foam party soon.
By the way, if you enjoy reading my blog and would love to see me in Company magazine (let's face it, that would be AMAZING!), you can vote for me here

  2. I've got to say, I've never been to a foam party either, but I have a water phobia so I'll blame it on that! It does look like a good time though, makes me want to go!

    1. Oh no! I have a weird fear of water on the end of my nose, so that was a little horrible every now and then! It was so worth it though!

  3. I am 23 and have never been to a foam party, I have never before felt such a desire to rectify this horrible oversight as I do now. That looks like so much fun!

  4. Looks like you had loads of fun. I've been to a foam party before but it was absolutely awful for me - I'm so short that the space above my head acted like a bowl, filled up with foam and I just couldn't breathe! I had to be dragged out by Alex Turner (not the Arctic Monkeys singer, a friend with the same name) but it makes quite a good story :)

  5. I have never been to a foam party because the thought of being gross and slippery around people I don't know is just a bit weird. It looks like you had so much fun though!x
