Last year, I went to a singalong screening of The Muppets Christmas Carol at the Prince Charles Cinema with Marie and Christie. We've decided to make this an annual tradition so, for the second year running, we donned our Christmas jumpers and set off for Leicester Square. Before heading over to the PCC, we popped into Bubba Gump for some cocktails. This was a very exciting moment for me as there is a branch at Universal Studios in Orlando and, in both 2011 and 2014, the huge shrimp became a kind of mascot for the trip. However, we'd never been inside so this was hugely thrilling!
Don't laugh at me, but I had absolutely no idea that Bubba Gump was a Forrest-Gump-themed restaurant. I'd only seen the film twice in my life, the last time of which was 10 years ago, so I didn't get the reference at all.
The decor inside is so fun, filled with Forrest Gump references and memorabilia. There's even a well-stocked shop so you can buy all the souvenirs you want. Marie is a massive fan of Forrest Gump, so she was pretty much in heaven!
The drinks menus are on ping pong bats. Such a cute idea!
When you order a speciality cocktail, you can choose a souvenir glass to take home. I went for the mason jar which has a hideously tacky goblet-style stem. It's so ugly but I absolutely love it! My cocktail was a Blue Hawaiian, which is essentially the same as a Blue Lagoon. It's absolutely delicious! Christie's, on the left, is a Pomegranate Margarita.
After a quick detour through the mini winter village in Leicester Square, we began queueing for Muppets. Unlike last year, seating was allocated and it turned out that we weren't all sitting together. We sat in a row to begin with and, remarkably, nobody turned up to claim the extra seat! Woohoo!
It's such a fun way to start the Christmas season. Same time next year, girls?
YOU DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A FORREST GUMP THEMED RESTAURANT?
ReplyDeleteI went past this LOADS when I was up in London, camping out for The Hobbit premiere. I kept meaning to go in and buy something, yet didn't :(
ReplyDeleteIt shall be my aim next time I'm up there!
